Mission: Founded nearly 20 years ago, the Bucks County Peace Center is the only agency in Bucks County, PA whose sole focus is violence prevention and peace education. Established in 1982 under the name of BAND with a focus on nuclear disarmament, the organization soon shifted its focus from thinking globally to acting locally. Our primary focus is to serve schools, families and communities in the Delaware Valley Region. We have a demonstrated history of advocating for violence prevention and conflict resolution. Over the last seven years we have worked with 75 schools and more than 3,200 individuals in conflict resolution. We are an active, community funded organization. Our board of directors raise nearly a third of our program budget through community events and support. Over the last five years our program budget has doubled in size. This has enabled the Peace Center to play a key role in creating safer schools, communities and families through our innovative programs. Independent research has shown our programs have had a marked impact in the communities we serve. A three-year study of our Project PEACE for schools pilot project revealed that two years later, 60% of the children trained in conflict resolution were using their new found problem solving skills at school, in their homes, and in the community.
