Causes: Education, Scholarships, Scholarships & Student Financial Aid
Mission: The Bruce’s Beach Education Foundation recognizes and supports poor, distressed or under-privileged people pursuing higher educational goals, information technology careers, ocean awareness and ocean-focused careers, or those pursuing actions within the community to achieve equality and those working to diminish homophobia and racism. The Bruce’s Beach Education Foundation educates students, groups and others about the historical injustice perpetrated upon Willa and Charles Bruce two of Manhattan Beach California's earliest Black residents. The Bruces' successful resort and beach was wrongfully seized by Manhattan Beach in 1924 by use of eminent domain. The Bruce's Beach Education Foundation works to ensure the public is aware of this tragedy, so it is not repeated elsewhere.
Results: The BBEF was previously known as the Manhattan Beach Youth Recognition Award which began in 2004. The BBEF strives to continue the MBYRA original goal to award scholarships to minority students of financial need.
Geographic areas served: Southern California and Los Angeles County
