Who would have known that in this day and age, poor people in rural areas all over the world rely on working horses and donkeys to help with their daily chores? I heard once that these animals are the engines that mobilize the developing world. Because we don't think of their value as a top-of-mind need, they go unrecognized, and many times suffer immensely because resources are not available to help them. Brooke USA does all it can to help them and fill the gap between need and support - they train veterinary assistants and shoemakers; educate owners; work with governments and more. Kudos to Brooke USA.
Volunteering with Brooke USA has been a wonderful experience! I have mainly helped in Wellington with winter events like the Watering Hole Pool Party and Divertimentos & Dressage, but have also attended as a supporter. I always have a wonderful time with the staff, the events are fun and creative, and the mission is one I feel strongly about. If we can make a small impact in the lives of those who need it most, then it is the kindest thing to be able to volunteer and give my time in this way. I hope that this year we raise even more money for The Donkey Project!

This organization is well managed and thoughtful in its distribution of funds where it can make high impact! If you are a lover of equines OR a lover of people--or both, this organization provides meaningful impact through its giving to those working with equines as a main source of their economic livelihood. Sustaining the health and well-being of equines in many countries also sustains the health and well-being of those who are dependent on the equines for their economic survival.
We are impressed with the actions and campaigns of the charity, "Brooke USA Inc". They excel at the rescue, and, future, safety of, all, equines in need. They deserve to be honored as a, proactive, contributor to grants for needed equine rescues. Especially , notable is their, ongoing, and determined campaign to stop the import of ejiao to the United States, and their commitment to educating the public about this cruel trade!
Brooke has multiple ways to learn and engage with the mission of the organization. Brooke offers assistance to people as well as to animals. The administrators and the volunteers all care very much about what they are doing and try to find ways to spread the word. They offer reading materials, videos, gatherings of the more "fun" kind, and they are always searching for new ways to involve others and to educate. Brooke can reach so many people and tries very hard, never simply resting on what they do already. I am so glad I know about Brooke.
This is a phenomenal non profit that is truly dedicated to helping horses, donkeys, and mules and the people who depend on them. I have been donating to them for years and am very confident that the money is put to good use. Big thumbs up for Brooke USA!!!

Brooke USA is an arm of a global organization that is well organized and effective in terms of raising money and dispersing funds to achieve maximum impact. I have been supporting Brooke for many years and have watched it grow. It is well managed and are attentive to their donors. They do very important work worldwide that started with one woman. My heart breaks for the overworked and neglected equines around the world. Brooke does amazing work to alleviate their suffering .
I have been aware of the work Brooke USA work for many years. It is an amazing organization that focusses on improving the lives of working equines around the world. In my opinion, donkeys, and other working equines, are some of the most misused/abused animals on the planet, and so often misunderstood. Often labelled as stubborn, they are quick to be cajoled and abused into carrying loads that are far too heavy with inappropriate tack /gear. At the same time, these donkeys often play a vital role in the lives and wellbeing of many people in impoverished nations; and so by improving their lives , we are also impacting in a positive way the lives of many people. Brooke USA helps many different projects around the world and is very careful, conscientious and thorough in reviewing where donations are best spent to have the greatest positive effect on both working equines and their families. As a donor this gives me great comfort that any money donated goes directly to what it is intended for and helping those that the organization stands for.

I became aware of the Brooke when in Luxor, Egypt in the 1990s. Visited the headquarters there. Over multiple trips to Egypt I have seen the progress. Water troughs and shade areas in Luxor for the caleche horses just to name a couple of things. I support the Brooke and the fine work they do in multiple countries now.
There is no charity in the US that covers the ground that Brooke USA does. As part of the Brooke family,the largest and most effective equine welfare group of charities in the world,some of the poorest countries receive considerable assistance in improving the husbandry and welfare of working horses and donkeys.These animals provide the livelihood for many of the worlds most at risk people. Brooke USA does an excellent job of raising funds that are then applied to the improvement of equine welfare in many low income countries and in so doing contributes to the measurable improvement of these animals and the families they support.
This organization supports communities that rely on horses, donkeys and mules all over the world. Funds that are raised for mission-aligned projects are wisely awarded to programs that deliver results and prove their impact. Organizational leadership can choose to issue "bridge" microgrants that can help an equine-focused nonprofit with help for a short term need. This has been very beneficial to many people and animals overcoming the challenges of COVID-19 and extreme weather.
Professional competent staff that along with the Board continually demonstrates their global commitment to improving the well-being and care of working equines, and in turn the families that they support. There are numerous atrocities threatening these precious hard-working animals, devastating floods as well as the threat to donkeys who are being slaughtered in Africa to poach their hides to produce a compound used in the production of beauty product manufactured in China. Brooke USA's efforts throughout the US and impoverished countries is critical work that needs to continue with the ongoing support of their generous donors.

Brooke USA is an organization that I have volunteered with on multiple occasions. It is a wonderful organization that values transparency and its mission is full circle. I take pride in being a volunteer and a donor, and I am especially impressed by their advocacy efforts to stop the Donkey Hide Crisis and ban the sale of the import of this terrible product, ejiao.

I love Brooke USA because the work they do benefits not only animal welfare but also the owners of the animals. By teaching owners of mules, donkeys, and horses the benefits of treating their animals humanely, Brooke Helps people who live at a subsistence level understand how to make best use of their beasts of burden. Brooke teaches people that by treating their animals with kindness and care, they can get more out of their animals. A healthy horse is a useful horse. I have witnessed firsthand the work they do in both Egypt and India and it was very heartening.
I love this charity because it touches on two passions: the long-ear population and the populations of the global community who are most vulnerable. Brooke goes into the hardest hit areas of the world and addresses the issue that most deeply impacts the economies of individuals, villages, and nations: the care of the beasts on whom they rely to make a living. Hundreds and millions of donkeys, mules, and horses endure undue hardships so a family can earn its living. The families who own them are so poor they can not provide what their most important business asset (their equine) needs. They don't mean to be cruel or indifferent; they just don't have the means to provide the proper care and protection for their equine. This is where Brooke comes in. Imagine, if you HAD to have your truck to carry out your business to provide the most basic needs to your family, but you had no way to fix the truck if it broke, or had no means to provide proper maintenance to keep it running. Eventually it would break down and you would have no truck to earn a living. It's the same thing for these destitute families and their "trucks" (their equine). Brook sends its vets, its equine-educated folks in to help the animals, provide proper harnessing and care goods, while educating the equine-owners about proper care of their equine. The animals are strengthened, the families are given hope, and the local economies are enhanced. What could be more important as a charity than to do the work of helping the economies of the most economically challenged regions of the world, and to help the millions of four-leggeds on whom they depend?
Before the present pandemic we traveled a great deal. In some countries the treatment of horses and donkeys is heartbreaking. Desperately thin and overloaded they work long days to provide for families who many times are hungry themselves. Brooke USA helps to improve the conditions for these animals, and so also help the owners.
I first learned about Brooke USA in 2016 when my daughter gave truffles for a cause at her wedding. As a life-long equestrian, I did not know that there was an organization in the US that was focused on the well-being or working horses, donkeys and mules and the people who depend on them. Immediately I was in love! I began volunteering at every event in Wellington, Florida and even brought a lot of friends to help with Brooke USA's largest fundraising event of the year, Brooke USA's Sunset Polo & White Party. I also volunteered with the organization during the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, NC. Every time I volunteer it has been a wonderful experience--the staff is small but mighty and always so appreciative and professional. I also love the transparency of the organization, and I know that my donations as a member of the Dots (Brooke USA's Women's Group) always benefit a wonderful cause, from helping women and donkeys in Kenya to assisting with disaster relief, and most recently the COVID-19 Response & Recovery Fund. I am proud to be a part of Brooke USA as a friend, volunteer and donor. This organization is definitely a shining example of turning passion into dedication and making an impact for those who truly need it worldwide. Thank you Brooke USA!
I first heard about The Brooke back in 2014 when I picked up a magazine at the infusion center I was receiving chemotherapy. I had always donated to my local horse rescue and I was a volunteer also. What struck me about the Brooke, was that it helped on a global scale. It not only provided health care for horses, mules, and donkeys, but also educated owners in the care of these precious animals. In helping care for these animals, the Brooke help families take care of themselves. I was going through a life changing experience . I was being cared for by my medical providers, but at the same time they were providing me the education to care for myself. How many organizations do you know send a thank you note when you donate? The Brooke personalized these notes and when I received my first one during chemotherapy, that meant a lot. People were helping to live. I wanted to help others to live a full life - human and animal.

I have witnessed the untold suffering and misery of animals around the world. I have also been privileged to see where Brooke has made a difference in the lives of animals used as beasts of burden or for pulling heavy loads and for powering ploughs, grain threshing mills and water wheels in rural communities throughout the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Many animals now have access to water troughs, food, shade and other lifesaving commodities where none previously existed before Brooke provided them. This is a uniquely important charitable organization and I will not hesitate to recommend them for the support of others.

Animals are sensitive creatures and deserve our consideration in their well-being! This is continually the message that Brooke advocates. So often, unfortunately, horses, mules, donkeys are still considered "beasts of burden". Brooke's aim is to educate and teach hands on that animals are just like us...needing care: rest, proper food, water, proper shelter and love. I have supported Brooke's efforts for over 15 years and intend to continue. Brooke has ended so much suffering but there is still more to end. I am always proud to contribute.

Brooke USA is focused on helping the most needy animals and people in the world. We in the USA have a hard time understanding the poverty and desperate conditions that donkeys, horses, and mules live in in the countries where Brooke USA works. The animals are essential for their families to make even a subsistence living, yet their owners often do not understand how to care for the animals. I got to see working donkeys and horses in Egypt. They all looked healthy. Now I know why -- that's where Brooke started their overseas work. Now they help support equines around the world. As you know, Brooke was founded in 1934 by Dorothy Brooke who landed in Cairo with her husband and was devastated by the physical and emotional condition of the war horses left behind after WW1. We certainly have come a long way since those early days and improvements are noticeable in the countries where we work. Yet, there is so much more to do - 600 million people in the developing world depend on 100 million working equines.
