This is a very professional nonprofit organization!
The mission and the staff that work at 'Breathe California Golden Gate Public Health Partnership' are highly motivated, passionate about the work they do, extremely knowledgeable & helpful and ready to fight for clean air and lung health in their local community.
Working as a public health research and evaluation intern at Breathe California has allowed me to contribute to improving air quality, reducing the impact of asthma, and support research to find cures for lung diseases. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Prop E campaign and witnessed a positive change in the history of San Francisco. The team at Breathe California are passionate about their work and interning at Breathe has been such a rewarding experience. Contributing to important public initiatives and the organization's goal of preventing lung disease has proven to be a wonderful opportunity to develop new skills as an epidemiologist. It has been a pleasure to work with the staff who have played an instrumental part of promoting public health in our community.
Breathe California is an amazing non-profit dedicated to improving the health of the people of San Francisco. They're passionate about addressing lung disease through the promotion of smoking cessation and have an incredible staff always willing to engage with the community to answer any questions people may have. Volunteering with Breathe California has been such a great experience and I could not thank the people here enough for being so welcoming! I am truly inspired by all of the work that they do and how much of an impact they have on this community each and every day!
Working for Breathe California as an Air Quality Public Health Intern allowed me to firsthand see how one of the Bay Area's oldest non-profit organizations functions and operates. I was fortunate enough to be able to work closely with the leadership team while simultaneously getting involved with research on current air quality issues. Breathe's dedication to ensuring the air we breathe overall benefits the public's health is something they consistently keep in mind with various programs and campaigns they get involved with. Being able to see and hear about the efforts being made for the Proposition E campaign was also something I am glad I was able to witness firsthand. Working for Breathe California is an opportunity I am so grateful for and will apply the valuable skills I have learned to my future endeavors.
Incredibly impactful organization doing work on all sides to improve lung health in the community.
Breathe California Golden Gate has done, and continues to do an incredible job executing on programs that make a positive direct impact on the community. With lung disease continuing to be one of the leading cause of death in the U.S., Breathe California Golden Gate's work continues to be of the utmost importance.
I love this organization! I have been involved with Breathe CA since the end of 2007 and am so proud of the impact in asthma, tobacco control, and air quality!
Such great work on flavored tobacco regulation! Breathe CA Golden Gate is the local expert in this area and it is fantastic to see the progress they have made in the region!
Breathe California Golden Gate provides terrific programs and necessary resources to local, under-resourced communities to raise awareness about lung health.
I have been happily donating to Breathe California for over 10 years. It is my largest donation of the year. This is an amazing organization making a direct impact in the local community and at the state level in terms of advocacy. Major positive changes in public health happen because of Breathe California.
Staff are incredibly professional and responsive, programs are evaluated, and funds are spent wisely. I know my dollar goes far here! I would encourage everyone to invest with Breathe California.
I'm very proud to serve on the Board of this great non-profit -- great work in asthma education for low-income families, smoking cessation programs for multiple segments of the community and health advocacy around clean air issues. The staff is deeply dedicated and very skilled. It's a great organization!
This is an amazing organization providing amazing community support on issues of lung health, asthma, and tobacco cessation. The work they do is at the forefront of creating a healthier future for the San Francisco area.
I've volunteered with Breathe California this whole summer and it's been an amazing and eye-opening experience. Everyone on the team is not only incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about lung health and their community, but also so engaging, energetic, open-minded, and full of great and new ideas to promote the organization's mission. Definitely make sure to keep an eye out for their amazing programs and events!
I volunteered at Breathe California Golden Gate and they immediately made me feel welcomed and at home. Can't say enough about the dedicated staff, work environment and mission goals. Highly Recommended!
I volunteered all summer with Breathe California Golden Gate Public Health Partnership helping to evaluate the success their asthma program. Working with the Breathe team was a great learning experience and I am so inspired by the incredible and important work that they do every day.
Breathe CA Golden Gate is an exceptional organization promoting clean air and lung health. They were so organized at the 25th Annual Bike 4 Breath. I had a great volunteer experience!
This is an amazing organization. We race every year in their bike for breath which is so fun and makes us feel good about supporting a cause dear to our heart. So thankful for the hard work they do!
Breathe has been advocating for clean air and lung health since 1908. From its Ash Kickers program to get smokers to quit to the annual Bike 4 Breath that brings cyclists from all over the Bay Area together to ride for a purpose, Breathe continues to keep issues of clean air and lung health in the forefront, helping fulfill its mission to assure that breathing is not a struggle or a risk.
Breathe California is a wonderful nonprofit organization. They work with many aspects of lung disease - asthma, COPD, smoking. They have very invested staff, board members and volunteers. Patients are very grateful for their hard work.
I have exercise induced asthma and my maternal grandparents died from lung cancer. I appreciate the work this nonprofit does to improve air quality in this state.
This agency is terrific! They help people understand the consequences of smoking and poor air and they do everything they can to make it better!
I'm a new board member and I am impressed by the caliber of staff and other board members associated with this organization. Everyone is committed to raising awareness and being advocates for better air quality and better health. I am grateful to be part of such a great organization!
Breathe California Golden Gate does a great job advocating for clean air in California - this means every human, animal and plant living in or visiting the state benefits! I appreciate their efforts to provide us with clean air and to raise awareness for everyone.
Breathe California is welcoming, honest, and helpful.
I have exercised induced asthma, maybe not one of the more common forms of asthma but it has changed my life. I’ve had it for about 15 years now and when I first got the diagnosis of it I was bit shocked. No one else in my family has asthma so I wasn’t sure why I’m the only one that has it. I would say I consider myself lucky and that it only affects me when I doing anything strenuous but others who has asthma can experience it at any time. The work that Breathe California does is important because they fight for a cleaner California so that the next generation can grow up in areas and not have to worry about asthma, lung disease or second-hand smoke issues. For the past three years I’ve ridden in Breathe California’s Bike for Breath fundraising bike ride and will continue to do so to help raise funding and awareness for a cleaner and healthier California. Won’t you help join the cause and donate?
I have been volunteering for Breathe CA GGPHP for a year. I feel exceptionally lucky to have found this organization. My six-year-old daughter has asthma and I have lost two of my grandparents to lung disease so I have a personal interest in the cause. Up-to-date information on lung health is one of the benefits you get out of volunteering for the organization, not to mention the great staff who welcomes you as one of them. I now feel confident managing my daughter's asthma after learning from the asthma educator. I also see that the work I do for them is fully utilized and has impact on the organization and the communities. I serve on a committee as well so there are multiple ways you can volunteer for this organization. I highly recommend Breathe to others.
I’ve been volunteering for and supporting Breathe CA since 2008. They are an incredible organization that treats volunteers extremely well and makes an actual impact in the community. I have participated in many of their events over the years and my 6-year-old son has now started to volunteer with me. They do a great job sharing health information at their events and I have noticed their new website has become even more of a resource than it was before. Breathe CA shares their successes and doesn’t hide challenges that many nonprofits do - they mailed me a State of the Agency Report last year and I felt like I really understood the breadth and depth of their impact; I appreciate their transparency and I know my time and my money are responsibly spent!
I've been a volunteer with Breathe for over six months now. I got involved through a mutual contact and the staff could not be nicer if they tried. I didn't know much about lung health when I started, but since then I've learned an overwhelming amount! The staff is incredibly warm and inclusive, always making you feel welcome no matter what. They have always treated me with respect and appreciation, even answering my questions that sometimes seem to come out of left field. Everyone pitches in when there is a large mailing or other big project and they are always happy to help each other out on the everyday things, too, myself included. If you have a job interview coming up, they offer their help by doing a mock interview to help you prepare. There is no shortage of projects, so if you have a particular interest it's easy to find something you like and want to learn more about to help with professional growth. I love them so much I wish I could be hired as a permanent staff member!
I'm a nurse in the San Francisco Unified School District. Breathe California provides contractual support to provide high schools with help in running cigarette smoking awareness and reduction programs. Their staff members are knowledgeable and reliable. We count on them to present information to students in a teen-friendly manner. We can attribute the decline in San Francisco's teen cigarette use, in part, to Breathe CA's efforts.
Review from CharityNavigator
Exellent administration and presentation of a very useful program. The staff was knowledgeable, personable, and extremely effective. They gave me in a series of meetings, the tools and encouragement to face this horrible disease.
Breathe California with the San Francisco Asthma Task Force were instrumental in getting funding for the San Francisco Unified School District to convert to a Microfiber Ckeaning Program and using EPP for cleaning schools. This project was successful because of the tireless efforts of Anjali Nath. Anjali facilitated the purchase of the equipment and products and continues to search for funding to complete the conversion of our 150 facilities.
Breathe is a wonderful partner for asthma control; they worked together with the San Mateo Asthma Management Program and the SMC Asthma coalition to train: school nurses, home visitors from County programs and Head Start and other individuals to help children with asthma better control their environment and their medication use. They co-managed a pilot project to begin a home visiting program for children with out of control asthma. If it were not for their partnership our program would not exist; now we have over 120 home visits logged in for this year.
I was a member of the East Palo Alto Asthma Task Force for several years and worked directly with Anjali Nath and Krista Ward from Breathe California. Both of these young professionals exhibited genuine concern for the well being of children and they also provided excellent leadership in bringing much needed services to local schools, childcare providers, and families with children who suffer with Asthma in East Palo Alto and the surrounding communities. Anjali and Krista provided training and workshops to assist local schools, childcare providers and parents develop the knowledge and skills necessary for serving and protecting the health and well being of children who suffer from Asthma. Their dedication to serving the community and their professional demeanor make them role models for all other support organizations to follow.
I have COPD and to help me with my handicap I try to go to classes and be informed. The series of classes that were offered were excellent and helped me enormously with my disease. Thank You.
I have been volunteering for B4B with Blackberry REACT for many, many years. I have already put the 2011 ride on Blackberry's and my calendar. Nicole is the very best organizer and handler of this event and I know she has more on her plate than this one event. The entire staff at Breath California is fabulous and deserves all the praise for a worthy and great cause. God bless, Jon Mosby
Facilitating the classes are very rewarding. At first I didn't think that very many people would actually quit. I have gotten to see first hand the determination, motivation and strength of the classes as a whole. The group support is so powerful in assisting smokers to quit. When I make contact for follow-ups after 30 and 90 days, it's amazing the amount of people that have stayed quit. Others that did not quit, I feel that the seed of knowledge has been planted and if they decide to quit they know where to call and enroll in another class. I feel that this is such a huge resource for the community in regards to a better quality of life or improvement with health issues due to the result of smoking. I feel that being an ex-smoker myself, the participants realize that I can empathize with their situauation and what they are going through.
