Mission: The breastfeeding task force of greater los angeles is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of infants and families through education, outreach, and advocacy to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
Programs: Breastfeeding works- to promote the implementation of employee policies and programs to support lactation in the workplace. Breastfeeding works also aims to provide self-advocacy tools and technical assistance to employees seeking help in transitioning back into the workforce and continuing to breastfeed. Partnered with the professionals in human resources association increase the number of employers with workplace lactation accommodation policy.
milk collection - to normalize breastfeeding, make communities aware of the need for donated breast milk and make the process of donating breastmilk easier for local mothers. A milk depot is a community location that accepts milk from screened donors, stores it in a freezer, and ships it to the milk bank for processing. In partnership with mmb san jose, breastfeedla provides the technical assistance and training for the site and purchases the freezer for the site.
seminars - to provide lactation continuing education for healthcare professionals and paraprofessionals working with breastfeeding mothers and infants. During the year 2017 17 seminars were held with about 1300 attendees.
outreach - breastfeeding task force staff and volunteers participate in state, regional and national advocacy activities to form collaborations. Website- to provide information for parents, healthcare professionals and employers. Resource directory- lactation specialists can be located by accessing the resource directory (resource yellow pages) that is on the task force website. Technical assistance - to provide technical assistance and clinical competency skills training to lactation professionals, nurses, paraprofessionals, and employers in the hospital, community, outpatient, and workplace setting around policies and practices that are supportive of breastfeeding.
