I have volunteered since the beginning of BTCKK.
We have seen over 100 dogs in yards, no matter what the temperature no matter what the weather.
All four seasons day and night. Dogs that only want someone to give them some attention or someone who just cares that they are suffering.
This is the group that does just that. You see the Hope in their face and when the chain is removed it is instant magic. They are part of our family until their final breath NO other group I have seen puts this much time and this much effort to help a helpless animal. This was Sylvia’s brainchild and I am proud to be a part of it. Frances Ehrlich
I am “one” of the oldest volunteers and have been with BTCKK since they started back in 2016. It has been a very fulfilling experience . . Just seeing the doggies off the chain, running and playing in their new kennel gives you such a warm feeling in your heart. Sylvia and her husband Andrew have the biggest hearts. They do so much not just for the doggies but for some of the families also.
Amazing group of volunteers that do so much good for this community!!

Sylvia, Andrew and all of the volunteers are beyond amazing. The work they do is very much needed in Guilford County. They have helped so many dogs get off their backyard chains and into their new kennels and dog houses. They help the owners understand the importance of proper medical care and at times, help with the funds to make sure it happens. Truly an amazing group of people who deserve community support!!
I did not realize how many chained dogs there were in Greensboro, Winston Salem and High Point. It is so sad that animals have to suffer like this. Thanks to Break the Chain Kennel Kru and the volunteers for their wonderful sacrifices by lovingly building fences in any type of weather and also educating the owners of these precious dogs and saving these loyal, vulnerable dogs so that they have a better quality of life.
My husband and I have volunteered and donated to this wonderful organization. We educate the owner and give each fur baby a better life. It was been a rewarding experience.
I have been fortunate to have been able to see this great organization start up from the beginning! Its founder, Sylvia Mayon, is a compassionate woman who puts her heart and soul into this organization. I have seen this group of volunteers, led by Sylvia, go into areas where people need both educational and financial assistance to help their pets. The group doesn't just go in, build a kennel and leave. They stick with the kennel recipients and make certain they get healthy, if they are not, and receive any medical attention needed. They educate pet owners on heart worm and flea and tick prevention as well as general care. Many times I have seen the group step in to provide other needs of the pet owner's family, whether it be groceries, assistance with a new baby, Christmas for a family, etc. Once a kennel is built for a recipient, volunteers visit the pet and owner, providing any needs they have such as dog food, cedar for the doghouse, straw for the kennel, and any help they need in learning to care for their pet. There is such a need for organizations like Break The Chain Kennel Kru. I have been amazed at the work they have done in the short time they have been in existence. I hope to see them grow even more!
This organization is truly a blessing to our community. Everything they do for these pets and their owners is done with such love and compassion. Not only do they provide everything needed for the kennel recipients but they also work to educate the owners and follow up with them. I believe they make our community a better place!
Guilford County passed a law several years ago that prohibited chaining dogs without owner's being present with the animal. Many people continue to chain their dogs (and some without shelter, food, water, etc.) like the laws do not apply to them...some people really have no choice. They love their dogs but cannot bring them in and cannot provide a fenced in area for them. Break the Chain Kennel Kru is a wonderful non profit that works with these people to get their dogs off these chains and into a large kennel with a large area of shade/shelter and a new dog house (and also treats) They work with the families to insure the dogs are vetted and medical needs are taken care of. Not only do they get sponsors for the kennels, which is how myself and friends have become acquainted with this fine group as we have now sponsored two kennels, but they also have monthly donors who help pay the vet bills for these precious souls who would otherwise not receive the vet care they need. After I met this fine group of people (with Sylvia Mayon as the founder) I was so impressed with the efficiency in which they operate to get the kennel up, new straw in, dog house set up and dog in with treats. They take photos of the dog you are sponsoring and share before the kennel is set up and offer you/group a chance to join them on the installation. You get a chance to meet the dog, family and appreciate what is being done for that precious dog. They also take wonderful photos to share with your group showing the dog "free of that chain" and this will make your heart melt for sure. My friends and I are so thankful for every dog BTCKK is able to remove from a chained life...we will sponsor again and highly recommend that others get together to help them get more dogs unchained.
Break the chain goes the extra mile by forging relationships with the pet owner which in turn helps to bring the pet owner closer to the pet.
I have had the privilege to volunteer my time to help this fantastic organization. This nonprofit group helps tethered dogs "break the chain" by providing secure housing for them! I admire this group's efforts and love to help them, when I can!
Break the Chain Kennel Kru is truly a blessing on our community. They find dogs who are living their lives on chains. Their sole goal is to provide that dog with a better life. They do not judge the people who are the caregivers of the dog, as they know that life circumstances can have people in unfortunate places. They have the dog vetted, spayed or neutered, and build an outdoor kennel for the dog, complete with doghouse and hay. All of their labor is volunteer and all expenses are paid for through donations. They are a shining example of giving hearts and helping hands.
This group does so much good. They not only help the dogs they serve but provide support for the families. They are great at following up and providing continued care. They treat everyone, people and animals with love and dignity.
Break the Chain Kennel Kru, begun by Sylvia Mayon, offers free outdoor kennels in High Point NC to keep area dogs from being tethered which complies with current laws. Recipients are pre-screened, must receive government assistance to qualify & agree to get their animals(s) spay/neutered. Kennel recipients partner in building their kennel & "pay it forward" by helping build someone else's kennel. It's hoped that every recipient worked with will become advocates for spay/neuter & unchaining in their neighborhood. Regular follow-up visits are done with BTK families, continuing to educate them on responsible pet care, heartworm prevention, and family support. The belief is that the stronger their bond with these families the greater the chance the dog(s) will become closer members of that family. Some have even become inside family dogs!
