I have been a volunteer for Break Bread for one and a half years and deliver the nutritious, delicious meals to 40 neighbors each Wednesday. Break Bread is much more than a meal! This is a Community, who have forged lasting relationships based on kindness and caring.. Come and join us! All that is needed is a warm smile, and a giving heart!
I have been a volunteer for over a year and a half. What I love about Break Bread is the mission to nourish the community. This means sitting over a meal and sharing ourselves with each other. With no requirements to get a meal, this opens it up to our whole community. The more we learn about each other, the more we can understand each other.
Also, Break Bread is always thinking of new ideas to incorporate food and the community - like gardening, cooking classes, community BBQs with activities like bouncy houses etc.
As a volunteer, there are many opportunities to help in serving meals, kitchen help, leading arts and crafts with kids, gardening work etc.
For the last 5 plus years, this group has been feeding and nurturing the Littleton Community. It has provided balanced meals, friendship, acceptance and fellowship to hundreds of adults and children. They kept up their work in spite of COVIID. During COVID they began a to-go meal to those who could pick them up and began deliveries to those who couldn't. Also supply bags containing staples that might keep them from having to go to the store as often and things to entertain children at home were started. Now those to-go meals and supply bags are offered every Wednesday, and a sit-down meal at a nice tale experience happens every Saturday. For some of our friends, this is their only balanced meal, and others it is their hour or so of dignity each week. As a volunteer, I receive as much of a blessing as our friends do. Money carefully and thoughtfully spent.

I was part of a group from the organization that created Break Bread 7 years ago. This is my second time on the Break Bread Board. I volunteered in the kitchen for 2 or 3 years until I messed up the Thanksgiving gravy. What a joy to carry out a warm meal to several people who are talking and enjoying some fellowship and good company. I am grateful that we can help our neighbors in this way. We make contacts with businesses and other non-profit organizations in our community and we all come together to provide nutrition and kindness to many, many people. We feed people who deserve kindness and grace. I am convinced that our efforts help build a stronger community. Go to our website and volunteer to help on a Saturday evening, it will change your outlook on life.
I first found Break Bread through VolunteerMatch.com when I first moved to Colorado last year. I was looking for ways to get connected with my new community and it has been a blessing in many ways. I love cooking and baking so helping out in the kitchen gives me joy; and when I go out in the dinning hall to see neighbors from all walks of life sharing a meal and their life stories, it's heartwarming. I also get to witness how the regulars build relationships with each other and blossom as they help each other become their best selves. Everyone is welcome, no questions asked.
I volunteered for Break Bread in August 2022 and have been hooked ever since. What a wonderful organization. I usually volunteer on Saturdays to serve meals or greet our neighbors. I love the diverse community that comes together and will sit and share their time and a meal. Am excited to see them grow!
I am fortunate enough to know Break Bread from two very different perspectives. I first found this wonderful organization in 2019 as a person in desperate need for sustenance, both physically and mentally. I was struggling to keep my body fed, as I was isolating myself from the outside world due to some fairly dire personal struggles. When I first heard of their Saturday meals, I was hesitant to join them as I honestly didn't know if I could handle sitting down to a meal with a room full of strangers. Eventually, though, I gave it a shot.
Break Bread, time and again, showed me exactly the compassion, respect, environment, and community I needed to begin healing. The food was (and still is) delicious, which made it impossible to pass up, even if I wasn't particularly excited about socializing that day. The people--volunteers, board members, and clientele--were all incredibly welcoming and uplifting. For two hours on any given Saturday I could feel at home with people I barely knew and enjoy a deeply satisfying meal to boot.
Over the next few years, for reasons good and bad, I grew apart from the area and lost track of the organization for quite some time. Now, with my life finally back on track and a resounding call to give back to those who helped me on my journey, I have found a home with Break Bread, yet again--as one of the newest members of the Board of Directors. Once again, I find my cup being filled by one of the finest charitable organizations I've had the chance to connect with. I'm elated as I think of the great things to come with Break Bread and all the people we might not only feed, but also enrich and empower, just as was done for me.
The unique thing about Break Bread is that it does not just provide a line to pick up food and be on your way. It provides a sit down meal, served family style, to all people from all walks of life. It is all about building relationships over a shared meal. I joined the Board of Directors because I am passionate about Break Bread meeting the needs of those experiencing hunger and a desire for connecting with others in the community.
Break Bread serves our community without regard to race, gender, sexual preference, religion or if you currently have a home. They simply provide friendship, meals and a hand up for anyone who joins them for sit down meals on Saturdays and take home meals on Wednesdays.
I was one of the founding board members and have rejoined the board because I believe the work we do is critical. Many families and individuals are struggling these days and sometimes a simple meal and a handshake can make all the difference.
There is really no experience quite like a welcoming community meal, and Break Bread does a great job putting one together every Saturday evening. It’s inspiring to watch strangers turn into neighbors and friends, as people from different generations, nationalities, and socioeconomic backgrounds come together and share their lives for just a few hours a week.
