During brain injury awareness month, the association distributed information kits and related materials to its state affiliates and the public through its website, www. Biausa. Org. Fact sheets and current information on brain injury prevention are provided on biaa's website. During 2017, biaa welcomed 1. 5 million visitors to its website. Biaa's bowling for brain injury and walk for brain injury events raise awareness and funds to support the biaa and the programs and services of biaa's affiliates. During 2017, biaa continued its brain injury awareness campaign: not alone. The campaign's theme reminds the public that brain injury impacts everyone.
education, training and research - biaa provides education to individuals with brain injury, their families, and the professionals who provide care. More than 2,600 people registered for 25 webinars on a wide range of brain injury subjects. Biaa provides training and certification to brain injury professionals. In 2017, approximately 900 professionals were newly certified as brain injury specialists. Biaa continued its research project investigating guidelines for the rehabilitation and chronic disease management of adults with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. Biaa disseminated research findings through the journal of head trauma rehabilitation as the association's official scholarly journal.
government relations and advocacy - biaa and its network of 7,000 advocates educate elected officials at the federal level about brain injury. During 2017, biaa advocated for life-saving research, access to healthcare, civil rights, and financial security for people with brain injuries. The association provides a weekly e-newsletter on federal policy activity related to brain injury and health care issues.
