My husband and I became involved with Boys and Girls Clubs as Elk members of Harrisonburg Elks 450.
We worked together trying to help them obtain a $10,000 Impact grant to help them with their food program for the kids. Unfortunately, we did not get selected.
Todd, Judy and the others do such a great job with the kids, and we support them.
When my children were young there was no organization like this to help children be in a safe environment while the parents worked after the school hours ended. Some of the children went home alone until their parents got off work as they could not afford to pay someone to take care of their children after school. Latch key children happened.
We are proud to assist in anyway we can to help keep this organization going in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
My children attend the Boys & Girls Clubs Plains Unit and love it! They are the reason I was motivated to seek Board membership. You know something special is happening when your kids never want to leave early! The staff are wonderful and truly care about all of the kids. They want to see them suceed and do their best! It is a huge weight off a working mother's shoulders to know her kids are being well taken care of and that they enjoy where they are. Plus, they get their homework done which is a true godsend (for me and them)!
Regarding being a member of the Board, I jumped in with both feet and haven't regretted a moment of my service. Every Board member's heart is in the organization and we all want to see the Clubs succeed and do all we can for the youth of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
