My son attends Triumph Elementary's Boys and Girls Club, and this program is absolutely amazing. Mrs. Jackie and Mr. Knight are fantastic. My son praises this program every day. The teachers take the time to teach the kids arts and even jump rope with them, helping them learn essential skills like tying their shoes. The one-on-one time and group activities they provide to the students are irreplaceable.
I’ve enrolled my son in other programs, but none can compare to the attentiveness and care he receives here. He has learned so much, and I greatly appreciate everything they do. It's one thing to supervise children, but it’s another to be actively involved with them. They make time to play and teach!
Without this program, I wouldn’t be able to attend work and manage my responsibilities as a single parent. The hours and location are perfect, allowing me to work my regular hours and pick up my son afterward.
I began riding the Boys Club van to and from private school in 1985. Even as a Boys Club back then, they provided transportation to Private Schools for the neighborhood children whose parents couldn't take them back and forth to these schools, Greenhill, Hockaday, St. Marks and ESD, and few others on the route. Flash forward 25 years later when I moved back to Dallas, I began dedicating my extra time and volunteering at the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club. I am currently the President of the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board. It was my club as a kid and I felt very strongly in helping make a difference in these children's lives. These kids are truly amazing and could not reach their dreams and goals without the educational programs and safe haven provided from the Boys and Girls Clubs. I know, I lived it and see it first hand .

I have been volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas for four years. I started with helping out with homework. I soon became more involved helping host bake sales, fundraisers, and field trips. I love helping educate our local kids.

As a parent of an elementary aged child:
My son attends the East Dallas Boys & Girls Club but I have had experiences with several of the other locations and feel that this applies for the organization as a whole.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas is a wonderful organization that strives to create responsible citizens as there mission states. The Club, as we like to call it, IS NOT A RECREATION CENTER. It is a youth development organization. They have fun, planned and structured activities for the kids. They help with homework, tutor, have music lessons, and provide sports. Their after-school care is so helpful for me because I am confident that my son will be doing something productive while there. I cannot not even begin on the summer program. It’s great! My son picked going to the club over a waterpark. He said he didn’t want to miss any days at the club. There are character building and leadership groups and I know my son is safe while he is there. They promote an anti-bullying environment and the youth can talk to the staff whenever issues may arrive. They are like family. The recognize and speak to you when you enter the club and care about the concerns that parents may raise. Many times my son is not ready to leave when I get there. It’s a one stop shop for positive youth development. It is wonderful. So much so that I became a volunteer! It is great to have an organization in my area that helps parents raise our children with a positive mindset. It’s not easy and it takes a village. I am proud to have the BGC of Greater Dallas in my village.

The Boys & Girl's Club (East Dallas location) permits an atmosphere of theft and lacks integrity and morals as well as breed an environment of irresponsibility, from the President, Charles English, down to his staff. There is no location of which children can store their personal belongings in the after-school program, but there is a Teen Monitor who is an adult present. Yet, both a cell phone and pricy athletic shoes has been removed from my son's book bag on their watch, while their monitor was present, and their response is 'too bad, we don't have the time to investigate and we don't care to, your son should have kept up with his things". They lied about the surveillance camera working (it does not, this was finally revealed to the Detective on this case). This President and its staff are incompetent in not only addressing this issue, he also lacks understanding and expression of the Mission statement of this organization overall and actually, his actions and behavior gives the Boys & Girls club a BAD NAME!
