I worked at one of BRC's homeless shelters for many years. I have never seen staff anywhere work harder in service to their clients.

I was introduced to BRC in 2000. I stayed in a SRO then got a huge one room apt in the Bronx. These wonderful people helped me so much and forever grateful. I now live in CA. Section 8 was portable!

The elevator in a BRC building in New Your City for people with HIV/Aids has not worked in over 80 days. By stat law it is illegal to house such people in a build beyond 4 floors with out sand elevator. They said they fixed yet when the inspectors came it did not work This is the longest it has every been out but in a building with an elevator that is not older than 12 years this has been a perpetual problem, a long with other systems problems in the building. Even the laundry room has not work since sandy. Again a contractor was hear, but rumor has it he stop because of lack of timely payment, we're told it will open soon. Still sick people have a very hard time going up and down stairs much more when they have to carry things such as food and laundry.

A Palace Client Client Served

Donor's please do not send money to the BRC's The Palace Employment Shelter located at 317 Bowery St, NYC, NY 10002, unless you have visited and spoken to the resident's of the facility. On the 3rd floor women's dorm area, mice and rats have been running around. As an employment shelter, a donor would think services are available and offered that would help unemployed individuals. Unfortunately, the job program is rarely open (review the time books). Clients are not respected nor do they receive prior notification of a closing - worker's just don't show up. The workers in the job program sit down all day to copy & paste ad's from Craigslist or other job boards and hand those out. No attempt is made to verify if the job is still available. Client's can not plug in cell phones or use laptops to make personal searches for housing or employment. Client's are subjected ONLY to the hours of operation. While there is a commercial kitchen, the client's are unable to use place items in refrigerators or store food items. Clients are not allowed to cook. We do not receive healthy, or whole meals AT ALL. The same cold sandwiches are served every single day of the week and so is the breakfast (cold cereal). PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ACTUALLY SIT AND TALK TO THE CLIENT'S ALONE AND COME FIND OUT HOW YOUR MONEY IS BEING SPENT. PLEASE WE ARE BEGGING FOR YOUR HELP.

This agency should be investigated from inside, and not by one day events with the media who write wonderful stories about the work they do. I recently work for them for years. I left because all of the Directors lie about the homeless they serve. They lie about the services that the homeless get, and they also lie about all pertaining stats regarding number of clients, placements, follow ups and successful housing. Its a joke and very sad, ask the homeless and they will tell you, dont take my word....
