Mission: The mission of Border Animal Rescue, Inc. (BAR) is to reduce animal overpopulation through spay and neuter programs and to promote the adoption of unwanted, homeless pets by caring for them in foster homes, providing medical care, and finding them loving, permanent homes.
Target demographics: homeless cats and dogs and the people who love animals
Geographic areas served: Cochise County, Arizona
Programs: Cat and Dog Fostering and Adoption Program. BAR volunteers foster homeless or unwanted dogs and cats in their homes until they can be placed in loving, permanent homes. The animals are evaluated and provided with medical care as needed. Animals are socialized in a home setting in order to see their compatibility with other animals so they can be placed in the best possible permanent home. Adoptions are done through adoption events, our local PetSmart adoption center, and postings on our website, Petfinder.com, social media, and weekly newspaper ads.
Community Assistance Spay/Neuter Program. This program enables dogs and cats from the community to be spayed or neutered wherein pet owners cannot afford traditional veterinary clinic services.
Free-Roaming Cats (FRC)/Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Program. The FRC/TNR program has been highly successful wherein BAR volunteers help local residents humanely trap and spay/neuter hundreds of free-roaming cats each year. All are spayed or neutered and given rabies shots and other medical treatment as needed. Some of these cats, if social, are able to be adopted out through BAR's foster care efforts or placed in a safe environment where they are no longer living on the streets. Feral cats are returned to their original areas after medical treatment and vaccinations.
I rescued a litter of barn cats from a neighbor. I adopted two, took the rest to a friend who fosters kittens, and she was able to socialize them and give the remaining four to Border Animal Rescue. They all found homes. Additionally, when folks in the military need to relocate, they can often not take their dogs. Border Animal Rescue does a great job of rehoming these dogs.
