Mission: One-on-one youth mentoring program that works to reduce truancy and juvenile deliquency by using running & biking, academic goal setting and volunteerism to build self-esteem and encourage healthy habits in 10-15 year old youth.
Programs: Mentoring mentors spend 2-4 hours a week with their mentee for a minimum of one year. Pairs attend healthy life skills meetings that cover topics like goal setting, nutrition, adventure learning, and volunteering. Mentees set three goals to complete throughout the year: learning health goal, relationship health goal, and physical health goal. Mentors work with their mentees on taking the steps necessary to complete each goal. As part of the physical health goal mentors and mentees train to cross the finish line together in three 5k races or three 15-30 mile bike rides. A community race or ride is offered monthly and wellness check-ins are offered weekly. In 2017, 124 youth were supported with a mentor.
tutoring the tutoring program provides math, reading, and experiential academic enrichment for students falling behind in school. Bi-weekly two-hour sessions include one-to-one and group tutoring along with supplemental experiential learning activities. Tutoring sessions are lead by a licenses teacher and supported by volunteer tutors and mentors. In 2017, 86 youths were engaged in tutoring.
leadership/alumni mentor/mentee pairs are asked to volunteer together at least three times throughout the year. Mentees are encouraged to attend a camp, apply for internships and /or work exposure opportunities. In 2017, 106 alumni youth participated in alumni programming.
