I can’t say enough about Bluemont Sanctuary. I have been volunteering at Bluemont for about 4 months and it's the highlight of my week. It’s readily apparent that Leslie, Carl and their children are are all-in on the care for their animals despite the level of hard work and dedication it takes to be successful in doing this very difficult service for these abused/neglected animals. In the short time that i have been participating as a volunteer at Bluemont, it has been a true honor to part of this amazing sanctuary and to have met this beautiful and hard working family.

What a gift, on so many levels. I was introduced to Bluemont Sanctuary through a mutual friend. As I have been between work roles, I was in need of a place to routinely show up, be of service in any way needed, and to feel purposeful. The opportunity to volunteer here has been a gift I will never forget. The knowledge that Lesley and Carl, and the boys share with the volunteers about the animals is extensive and generous. The living conditions, medical care, and love that they have been able to provide is in a class of it's own. Watching the rescues arrive from whatever conditions they were subject to prior, acclimate and ultimately flourish for the remainder of their years, in a safely protected environment, is truly soul filling. Forever grateful.
Bluemont is a place where horses get to rest, and people get to escape to a place where they can enjoy spending time with the amazing animals they love. Coming here with my friend is a nice time to decompress after the long week. My favorite thing to do here is muck the paddocks all the way at the back of the estate where it is isolated and quiet. I can peacefully talk with my friend while we work among the horses. All the animals here are well cared for and loved, so I'm glad there is a place like this where they can retreat if things go wrong in their previous home.
I started volunteering with Bluemont over a year ago after a life changing event that made me look for something to sooth my soul. After speaking with Lesley and Carl, hearing their story and sharing mine, I knew we were a great fit. I spend Sunday mornings doing chores in an effort to make their Sundays a little easier and for them to have some quality family time. Thank you Carl and Lesley for allowing me to be a part of your fur family as well as treating us all as your human family as well. This clearly has been life changing for me and I cherish every minute there .
I started volunteering at Bluemont Sanctuary a couple of months ago and I am so happy I did. Carl, Lesley and their children give all their animals so much love and such excellent care, they have the best life ever. I enjoy coming and helping with their care, it makes my soul feel good and also to interact with all their different personalities.
I can’t say enough about Bluemont Sanctuary. They are 100% devoted to the care of their rescued animals. It’s obvious thru their actions that they genuinely love them and committed to the health and recovery of these previously abused horses. It’s an honor to be a volunteer. Doreen Jacobs
I have been volunteering on Saturday mornings at Bluemont Sanctuary for almost a year with my 12 year old daughter. While we started doing it for an interest in the project and a love for animals, we quickly became part of the greater “farm family” that includes the owners (obviously), the other volunteers and the animals. Everyone treats one another with respect and dignity (including the animals) as everyone is viewed as an equal and partner working towards the same goal - a warm, safe and nurturing environment for the animals to live out their natural life. There is so much to learn and do and (in particular) my daughter is there to learn something new each week and often our Saturdays are the true highlight of her week. I enjoy starting my weekend off outdoors (in all seasons, weather and conditions) and working with a team to solve problems, help the animals and the other volunteers with their chores. It’s a wonderful place, doing great work with wonderful people.
I cannot begin to say enough good things about Bluemont sanctuary. They are the most welcoming family and I really believe in what they are doing. I have been volunteering here at least once a week for almost a year now and will continue to do so. I feel safe here and look forward to learning something new every week I go. I work in an office stuck behind a desk all day so volunteering here is like an escape, and it is a pleasure to get my hands dirty and be able to offer help to these animals. I wish there were more places like this. The level of care and attention to detail they give to all their animals is inspiring. With all the good that this family does by taking on new animals when they can, the work doesn’t go without enduring heartbreak when it’s time to say goodbye to an animal. They have the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen.
I have not been Volunteering at Bluemont for too long. From day one I am so glad to be Volunteering with this wonderful Sanctuary. The care and love that is given to each and every animal in their care is amazing.
It is truly a Family affair. Everyone is so dedicated to the animals. Volunteers included. The animals could not ask for a better place to reside. The care and love that is given to them by the whole family is amazing. The whole family is hands on with everything at the Sanctuary.
Lesley, Carl, CJ and Adian, " Thank you so much for your dedication and love shown to all the animals that reside at Bluemont. Even the two dogs Zoli and Thor are the happiest dogs that I have ever met.
I am forever grateful to Dr. Shapley for telling me about what great place Bluemont is to Volunteer at and in helping me to get there. I could not agree with him more as to how Wonderful Bluemont Sanctuary is.
If you are ever looking for someplace to help please consider Bluemont. It would be greatly appreciated.
Bluemont is a first class sanctuary in every way. From the level of care, to the cleanliness and attention to detail. The family truly loves and cares for each resident. You can sense it just stepping onto the ground. I love volunteering at Bluemont and the family is genuinely appreciative of their volunteers. A truly caring family that is genuinely kind and dedicated to the animals and the well being of animals everywhere. You can see with your own eyes, the life changing transformation of each animal they save. Giving animals a chance that others have given up on. It’s beautiful to witness. The animals are living their best lives and it’s all a testament to the hard work and dedication from the family and the volunteers that love this sanctuary. I’m grateful for places like Bluemont!
Bluemont is a very special sanctuary in the truest sense of the word. This amazing family provides a forever home for so many that found themselves homeless, in harm’s way, alone, sick, and even deemed hopeless by others. They rescue
them, get them well, and then give them the very best care for the rest of their days…along with endless love, joy, and peace. They treat each animal at Bluemont as an individual, get to know their personality, and do what they can to provide the best life possible for each and every one of them in an incredibly customized way. They are so emotionally invested in every single soul under their care. The love they have for these animals is incredible, and that is just what Bluemont is…an incredible sanctuary centered around true love for all of its residents.
I have been a volunteer at Bluemont since they just began rescuing animals. The dedication their whole family has given to these animals is incredible. All they do is care for them and treat them with respect and love. This farm is an amazing place to go and help out animals such as horses, goats, and donkeys. It is an amazing experience that everyone deserves to see- Carl and Lesley couldn’t make it any better!
When I first started volunteering at Bluemont I was excited to be near these amazing animals. I love animals but didn’t know how to care for equines. Carl, Leslie and their very special kind family showed me what needed to be done. It’s amazing to see how they care for each animal’s needs. I honestly don’t know how they do all they do. A family, a sanctuary where all of the animals need alot of care, volunteers and other jobs. They rely on the help of volunteers but on those days when there aren’t any volunteers, Carl, Leslie and their two sons step up to do everything themselves. They are truly amazing. The grounds of the sanctuary are beautiful and perfectly maintained. It’s a sanctuary for all who visit there, including the volunteers. To hear the stories of what these animals have been through, to see them arrive at the sanctuary, thin, sick and scared and then watch as they transform into healthy, full bodied, and trusting animals is life altering. Thanks to the calm, caring demeanor around the farm everyone is transformed after going there.
I have been volunteering at bluemont for a little over a year and have enjoyed every second. Whatever the task or challenge is everyone is ready to take it on. Everyone is always friendly and always willing to teach you how to do things properly. Bluemont Sanctuary’s care and compassion for animals is unmatched. Bluemont truly creates a haven and home for all of their rescues!
I have been volunteering with Bluemont for 3 years and they have been nothing but amazing! They are always willing to help anyone and everyone and accept any challenges that come their way. There is nothing but love on the farm.
This place and the people behind it are extraordinary. I have worked in the non-profit world for a long time and dream of non-profits being run this way.
Every animal is cared for, and loved to give them the best literal sanctuary possible. The sanctuary itself is a most beautiful and peaceful place. Volunteers are welcomed and really contribute to the day-to-day chores. Lesley and Carl have deep knowledge, phenomenal commitment, love, and practicality leading to a truly special organization. Looking after equines, and committing to doing so for their whole lives, is an expensive endeavor. If you are looking for a place to support, you won't find better than Bluemont Sanctuary.
I have been a volunteer at Bluemont for about a year. I started after attending an events on their farm and loved being there. They are so easy to volunteer for. They are completely flexible with what you can donate time wise and what you can do physically. There is something there for everyone to help out with. They take wonderful care of their animals and routinely make late night trips to the barn if anyone is sick or needs extra attention. I hope they continue to run this place and save animals for years to come.
I volunteer here once a week with my 15 year old son. Lesley, Carl and their two older sons are amazing. They give the same care and love to every animal on their farm. The sanctuary is organized, clean and calm thanks to them. It is an incredible place filled with beautiful horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, cats and chickens... I hope I am not forgetting a species! We look forward to our time with the people and animals each week.
Blluemont!!!! If you ever wondered what would heaven look like .... this would be it! I am a proud sponsor and volunteer my photography every chance I get to this amazing farm! The founders and owners treat every animal that is lucky enough to land here with the utmost love and respect. They are the most caring and selfish people I have ever met! The love and dedication is beyond exceptional! They also raise 4 beautiful boys who are age defying dedicated and responsible. I love to visit the farm whether to see the horses and my soul immediately sores with joy and happiness. I have witnessed first hand the hard work conducted at the farm whether by Carl or Lesley, their children and the volunteers. Truly there are no words to describe Bluemont and what they stand for..... but if I had to pick just one word, it woud be heaven.
Bluemont is the kindest place on earth. Animals receive extraordinary care - I am an animal lover; experienced with animals; trained - certified therapy dog; and horseback ride - It is such a gift to be able to volunteer at Bluemont. Those of us who spend time there are feeding our souls while doing good. The animals are cherished - I have never seen a set up where every animal, including the chickens, are treated with such love and devotion. The animals are respected and asked to be only themselves. Lesley and Carl are kind and loving people - raising four beautiful sons along with lovingly caring for a kind and gentle sanctuary. There is no kinder place on earth - of that I am sure.
I have been periodically volunteering at Bluemont Equine Sanctuary for a little while now and it is run by the nicest and most caring family. It is obvious how deeply they care about the animals and the work that they do!
Lesley, Carl and their children are the hearts behind Bluemont Sanctuary. Many individuals are unwilling to take on the responsibility surrounding animals who require intensive medical care, or have severe trauma backgrounds due to abuse. Bluemont Sanctuary embraces even the hardest cases, providing a safe place for animals in need. Through their consistently empathetic care, animals who may have originally mistrusted their human owners finally feel safe again to let their own personalities shine. Bluemont Sanctuary also treats their volunteers like family. It's a space I encourage you to experience for yourself - and I hope you consider donating support through volunteering or financial contributions! Thank you for all that you do Lesley & Carl.
I so look forward each week to volunteering with some of the luckiest equines and donkeys!Carl, Leslie, and their two sons take exemplary care of all the four legged souls in this beautiful space. All of the animals are doted on, with a majority having special medical and/ or physical needs. The love and compassion to the animals is reflected throughout this farm.

Lesley, Carl, and their children are a beautiful family who do amazing work out of the goodness of their heart. Their generosity benefits not only the animals who are lucky enough to find a home at their sanctuary, but also every person who gets the chance to visit and interact with them there. I originally came to the farm to do equine-assisted therapy at their sanctuary. First of all, this has been the most beneficial experience in my healing journey and coping with my mental health - the animals are the very embodiment of resilience and have taught me so much through their own healing experience as well as their companionship. On a separate note, since ending that part of my treatment, I have continued to volunteer at Bluemont Sanctuary and have seen firsthand how loved and well-cared for these animals are. I am truly grateful to be able to help contribute to Bluemont’s mission and for everything they have done for me.
I have been volunteering here for over a year and I have nothing but great things to say about Bluemont. I could tell from the first day there that Carl and Lesley really care for the animals and they do it all for the right reasons. Love this place!
Bluemont Equine Sanctuary is without a doubt the best rescue at which I have ever had the privilege to volunteer. Carl, Lesley, and their family are the most incredible people! I cannot say enough about their kindness, compassion, and dedication to all the animals who pass through their gates. Every animal they take in will have the most loving forever home imaginable. If you are able, please help this sanctuary; your donations and/or time could not go to a better cause.
I first started volunteering here with a friend, but since my first day I have kept coming back! Leslie and Carl are truly two of the sweetest, most kind hearted people on the planet and treat all of their animals with such care and attentiveness. What this family farm is doing is amazing, and it shows in the happiness of the animals!
My first day at Bluemont Sanctuary was very eye opening. The care provided to each animal was designed to meet their specific needs. The patience, love, respect and dignity for every animal was clear. These beautiful animals come first, no exceptions. At Bluemont you can feel the love, peace and tranquility and this is exactly what these animals deserve. Bluemont Sanctuary is heaven on earth.
These guys are truly amazing. They have so much love for every animal and its so amazing how they can give them a new home and a real second chance at life. Every animal on the farm has their own incredible backstory and it’s so nice to see them grow and get better all thanks to the best care out there. I am so glad to be able to help out this incredible family do an incredible thing.
Bluemont Sanctuary is truly heaven on earth to all of those that find their way there, humans and animals alike! Leslie and Carl are absolute angels for what they have created there. I try to stop by at least once a week to volunteer or sometimes just to visit with the horses, donkeys, and minis. The entire experience has been a blessing and rewarding in so many ways.
This sanctuary truly is an emulate of what all sanctuaries should be!! Carl and Lesley are such kind individuals and they're always looking to further better the wellbeing of each animal. They go above and beyond caring for every animal that they rescue, no matter what their needs may be. Their farm is always immaculate and they are always express gratitude for each individual that comes to help out with the animals.
Lesley, Carl and their two boys are the most wonderful, knowledgeable and caring people. I started volunteering here in January 2021 and I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to watch equines get another chance at a life they truly deserve. Bluemont is well organized and all of the animals are in such good hands.
I looked into Bluemont Sanctuary when I received my equine massage certificate as I was looking to give back to horses after getting involved with them via a VA sponsored therapy program. My offer to massage the horses, donkeys and minis was gratuitously accepted and I was introduced to a wonderful family who have nothing but the truest love of poorly treated animals and giving them a beautiful environment for living out their days in peace and security. Nothing comes before the care and treatment of their charges. The stable and grounds are immaculate and volunteers devoted to the best for the animals is what makes Bluemont Sanctuary such a great non-profit.
