I was appalled when I heard a tape of one of their casa agents being on drugs with his wife and that she had even confronted them about it only to be dismissed and swept under the rug. Drugs and children should be taken seriously. Me and my husband are simple disgusted by such a clear oversight for some unknown reasons.
I have been working for CASA for 15 years and have been an advocate for 22 children. That requires becoming familiar with all aspects of each child and usually each of their parents, too. Not always easy due to changes in placements of the child. Their parents may not be compliant with the demands of the court, and we have to keep tract of that. If the parents do what the court requires, they may get their children back. Sometimes there is a better, safer, place for that child and we have to check to make sure. I feel that CASA provides a needed extra pair of eyes to keep the children safe.
There are so many children who need a supportive, steady, and steadfast advocate and will never have that voice. CASA is that voice and I am proud to be a volunteer with this unique organization that has as its sole mission to advocate for those unheard young voices who need to know and believe that there are people out there who are there for them. Period.
Blue Ridge CASA advocates for our community's most silent victims- child victims of abuse and neglect. Visit the website to learn how you can become a voice.
This agency provides education and training to volunteers in order to advocate for the abused and neglected children to make sure that they do not get lost in an over burdened system. They are the voice of small children who can not speak for themselves. The group remains a constant presence in their lives during the court process, providing love and safety for them.
