Had a very poor experience with this society. They indicated on their website that if you come from out of town you can put a deposit on a dog, but on the phone they have no knowledge.
Made an appointment with them. Arrived an hour early and the dog was gone. No phone calls.
Think twice if you are from out of town.
They knew I was coming from out of town but didn't care. They want to get the dogs out ASAP.
I have been a volunteer at BMHS for the last 2 years. I have found it very rewarding work. The staff are caring individuals who go above and beyond for the critters at the shelter every single day. It is an honor to be involved in such a community-oriented organization.
I began volunteering at Blue Mountain Humane Society in December 2016 after relocating from California. If, you are an animal lover, this is an exceptional organization to get involved with. I initially started on the Cat Adoption floor and have expanded my care to include Dog Walking and caring for the kitties housed at the local Petco store. I have also fostered kittens too young to be spade or neutered along with kitties that needed a quiet place to recover post-surgery.
I have been a volunteer at BMHS since 2015. Volunteering at BMHS has been a very rewarding experience. I have volunteered in the office, in surgery, I trap cats for BMHS Cat Management Cooperative, transport kitties to Petco to be adopted and clean the kitty cubbies at Petco that house the kitties that come to Petco from BMHS. The staff are at BMHS are amazing and are always there to answer any questions. They are all so caring about the animals that are at the shelter.
I have been on the Board, am a volunteer, and have adopted a dog from the BMHS. They are a wonderful caring group who dedicate their time and efforts to ensure that all animals are well cared for and that they find their furever homes!
I have adopted two rescue dogs and one cat from the Blue Mountain Humane Society and all my experiences have been great. Rescuing animals has been close my heart and I have supported BMHS any way that I can. They have so many good programs for our community as well as offering reduced fee spay/neuter clinics that are so important. I recently moved out to a farm where there are many feral cats, BMHS offers a feral cat spay/neuter program that I have utilized and it is very helpful. The staff and board members are very compassionate and caring animal advocates, I commend them for the work they do!
I have had nothing but positive experiences with BMHS. They are very caring, helpful and truly care about the animals. Our community is lucky to have them here!!
There are so many great things to say about this community animal shelter. I have never been treated so professionally and compassionately anywhere, and after I adopted my cat I just had to become a volunteer and a donor. In particular, the front desk staff are amazing.
They carefully and with great care match up pets with prospective adopters, all the while reuniting families with lost pets.
Every animal, no matter how old, sick, or behavior-challenged gets the medical care, training, and love it needs to fulfill his or her role as a companion animal. My cat, Sam, is a graduate of their feral cat Trap, Spay/Neuter, Release program. He is a wonderful addition to our lives. Thank you Blue Mountain Humane Society.
I have been positively associated with the Blue Mountain Humane Society for over 30 years. I was privileged to adopt a 13” female Beagle that I “appropriately” (or not) named Flaps, because of her gorgeous and glamorous long floppy ear “flaps” …. She was my best friend for double-digit years and is affectionately buried in a deed restricted perpetual care pet cemetery, with an elaborate professional headstone, on the family ranch where I was raised.
The BMHS has also provided spay and neuter clinics which have been extremely helpful in managing stray feral kittens that people who are not “animal considerate” choose to bring into the country and abandon along the road at our residence.
I am extremely grateful to BMHS for all the joy and services they have brought me over the years.
Most recently, I have learned that while I can effectively operate a $300,000 wheat combine, I am not smart enough to operate a one-button electronic cat trap !!!
All kudos and thanks, with appreciation to BMHS, for all that the organization and its cadre of volunteers do, to make pet lives in Walla Walla county soft, easy and wonderful.
The Blue Mountain Humane Society is the most community oriented, helpful, wonderful organization locally and beyond. The staff and leadership at BMHS are kind and truly devoted to their cause. I have helped organize events in conjunction with the Blue Mountain Humane Society that are always a large success due to their commitment and enthusiasm. I've personally worked with BMHS with Grant programs in order to get my pets fixed and they were nothing but helpful. Lastly, my sweet dog is from the Blue Mountain Humane Society and I've had him for 11 wonderful years. The Blue Mountain Humane Society is such a great organization and we're lucky to have them here in Walla Walla.
I have been there many times the last several years prior COVID and during COVID looking for the right fit for a dog. I adopted a senior dog back in 2016 which she later passed in 2018, unfortunately. They have a mix of all types of dogs and cats and all appear to be healthy and happy all the times I have visited.
Staff and manager are very friendly and approachable, helpful, professional, and courteous. If they did not know an answer to my question, they put me in the right direction. Unlike other places I have experienced, they do not have any pressure on you to adopt a pet.
The only negative thing I would say about BMHS is it's poor location, in my opinion. There is an RV park which wraps around the perimeter of the place, and the building seemed a little small. However, maybe the community can help out financially along with donations from people to help them find a better location that is more remote and a bigger facility and outside area.
But location does not concern me too much, as the pets were in clean area with space adequate enough to home them. My rating is really 4.5 if I could apply that. Best of wishes BMHS crew!!
What a great organization! I have lived in Walla Walla for many years, and am so proud to see the progress our local shelter has made over the years. They even started a Trap/Neuter/Return program for feral cats, working together with other animal welfare groups in town, so they could stop killing feral cats in the shelter. I just adopted my cat from them.
