Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Our mission is to save the lives of and provide a safe, healthy and loving home to cats who would be declared un-adoptable and immediately euthanized in high-kill animal control facilities because they are blind or test positive for FIV or feline leukemia. Without this sanctuary, they would have no chance for a quality life. We are committed to educating the public about these cats and their ability to be loving family pets and to providing a strong community spay and neuter program to help reduce the number of cats in shelters.

Results: With 100 cats currently in residence, we provide a window into the lives and abilities of these cats, proving that they are in no way disabled or unable to be adopted as pets. Our social media presence offers this view to a global audience. As of the end of 2017 we have spayed/neutered 546 cats.

Target demographics: Animals

Direct beneficiaries per year: 150 Blind/FeLV+/FIV+ cats, spayed/neutered 546 cats

Geographic areas served: The US

Programs: Saving the lives of and providing a safe, healthy and loving home to cats who would be declared un-adoptable and immediately euthanized in high-kill animal control facilities because they are blind or test positive for FIV or feline leukemia; Educating the public about these cats and their ability to be loving family pets; Providing a strong community spay and neuter program to help reduce the number of unwanted cats in shelters (Begun in 2014, target for 2018 is 1500).

-There is only one Truth. That truth is as follows: We were put here on this sentient planet, to relieve not only our own suffering, but also the suffering of all other beings, especially those who cannot care for themselves. God smiles big time when we do that....." As ye sow, so shall ye reap."

Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary fills a hole in the "system" for unwanted animals that few of us are usually even aware of-- the need for safe, loving care for animals that are deemed unadoptable otherwise. Many pets that have been poorly looked after to begin with find a haven here, and are not forced to face an uncertain future. Whether they are blind from birth or have lost their sight through a lack of medical attention by owners, or if they have FELV+ or FIV+ status, at BCR, they all receive great healthcare, love, and a permanent home. As well, BCR advocates for the welfare of animals in the area: they have an outreach to spay/neuter, they have helped to provide life-saving equipment to local firefighters that will help those responders save animals in emergencies. It's my hope that BCR's effective strategies to care for and advocate for cats will lay down a pattern for other animal shelters & charities to follow; I know they make a difference every day.

The best cat shelter as most put blind and FLV afflicted cats down but this shelter helps them find a home or stay put. I have helped them out for months and will keep doing so. This is my wife and I's favorite charity...

I can't tell you enough about this fabulous place. Alana and her people are very devoted to these wonderful creatures. They get the best care possible. They have even gone further to get their cats the kind of medical attention they need, and that includes chemo, which is costly. They will not let a cat just die, no, the cat will get all the possible care he can. They keep us abreast of things too. They are an awarded non-profit. BCR also has a separate facility for cats that are contagious with leukemia, but are not sick, or sick yet. They are a very worthy charity. Snicker, their spokescat says so too.

You won't find people more dedicated and loving as the people who take care of these beautiful blind cats. I help with donations whenever I can, as I am committed to these fur babies too.

This is an amazing charity that i have supported for many years. Alana and her team provide such a caring environment for these cats that wouldmotherwise be abandoned or killed - and though this work they remind us what it means to be human - to be compassionate and caring - and to safeguard those less fortunate.

I am a strong supporter of the underdog and I always have been. I think this rescue is awesome and commendable for the work they do. I am so appreciative there are people that can care like these people do. I have an independent feline rescue in my home and I can say how tough it is. Bless you BCR

Visited and volunteered here for the last two years. Coming again in July. The staff are really great and the cats are adorable. Living out their lives in peace and being totally cared for. I recommend you to visit here. There is a guesthouse to stay and once a month they have Open House. Meet friendly people and help them and these deserving kitties. Alana Miller has created a Sanctuary for blind Fiv+ and Fiv+ kitties. Made some good friendships here. While here you have to say 'Hi' to Mr Snicker & Bunny and the crew. Apart from a Gilligan & a Thurston you can meet the rest of the castaways from Gilligan's Island (in name). Among the staff and guests this is known as The Happiest Place on Earth. pic of Mickey from my last visit.

I only found out about this charity on facebook courtesy of the candy-corn kittens. I have donated money and food from the Amazon wish list and set up an annual donation with my American Card. The work these wonderful people do for the disadvantaged kitties is a Godsend. Reading the stories of the little angels who have passed on all too quickly breaks my heart but knowing their lives ended surrounded by love eases the pain. I have five kitties waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I am hoping there will come a day soon when there will be a cure for FIP and FELV and eye disease so kitties in the future can have the stress-free lives they all deserve. Please help the charity any way you can. It will be worth it. My present two kitties Cuddly and Fluffy appreciate what is being done for their distant cousins and send their love.

I've been a financial as well as a fellow rescue/sanctuary supporter of BCR for many years. Not many shelters or rescues or sanctuaries out there that take special needs like BCR does. My own shelter Scooter's Place only takes special needs so I know what is in the hearts of all who work and support BCR!

I am a sanctuary for abused cats in Texas and Minnesota. I do physical and socialization therapy on brain damaged, ,blind, crippled, whatever type of physical and or mental issues that grace the front door of Scooter's Place. So BCR touches my heart beyond words for being a sister sanctuary for very special cats.

as far as i am concerned, this is one of the premeir animal rescue org in the usa and maybe the world. it just happens to be for cats, but i woild venture to guess if it was even for dogs, gerbils, whatever, they would still foster their program and whtever the animal they are dealing with would defkinitely be the better for it, as their philosophy is THE ANIMALS AND THEIR NEEDS COME FIRST.

from the get go this rescue/sanctuary takes in cats that are basically on the downhill side of life in all manner/one step away from the rainbow bridge. they give them the life they deserve and have never known in most cases for whatever time they have left, whether 10 mos or 10 years. i guess you could call it cat heaven. alana and all involved in what ever capacity, in my estimation have the credo, the cats come first.

I love the way BCRS uses the 'net to share the lives of their shelter kitties with their supporters all over the country, and to show their donors how well their contributions are being used to help the cats. They are doing a great service educating the public about pets with disabilities. This group uses imagination, humor and compassion to help folks understand that blind cats just want to have fun, to love and be loved, just like any other cats.

I discovered BCR through another humane society I support. I was impressed with the work they do with blind cats, as so many shelters just euthanize them. Some of the cats they have saved are amazing and would not have had a chance otherwise. BCR shares news of their work with donors, and responds personally and promptly to donations, questions and comments. I am glad to know there is such a caring organization for these special needs cats!

Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary is one of the most amazing animal sanctuaries ever . Once a blind or sick cat gets there , they never leave as this is their furrever home . When they cross Rainbow Bridge , they are cremated and their ashes are buried in the memorial garden on the property . These kitties are given love , warm beds , more food than they can eat , toys , meds and veterinary care when needed , donations of everything they need from sponsors and loving cyber parents . May God always Bless Alana , the staff who works there and especially the beautiful kitties . Because without BCR many of these purrfect cats would not be alive , no what it's like to have warm beds , food , meds , toys , and the love of Mama Alana Miller and millions of cyber parents .

Love the blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary!!!! Having had a cat who was partially blind I know what wonderful pets they make and how much they deserve to live and be loved. I am so thankful of their mission to give a loving home to the cats that are blind or FIV positive who may otherwise have been put to sleep. I am planning on taking a vacation in the future to visit this wonderful place, people and cats who live there. Although I am not rich I will always try to donate or help by clicking for the cats here. Kristine Hanson

While I have never had the opportunity to visit in person, the stories and information have been a great help to me to be a good guardian to my cat Kelly, found and rescued in Tucson, AZ.
I've had him more than 4 years now and enjoy him every day. He lost his sight due to neglect and Herpes virus. It took him only two days to get the layout of my house down, where the litter boxes are as well as food and water bowls. He is absolutely no more effort than his sighted cousins, and I wouldn't trade him for anything.
Thanks, Blind Cat Rescue!
