Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida has had a positive impact on our family's homeschool journey.

As parents, we appreciate how this amazing organization has partnered with us in providing educational opportunities and enrichment for our children for several years. In addition to this invaluable support, BHCFL is a community that our family feels at home in and gives us the wonderful opportunity to build relationships with homeschoolers with whom we share common ground.

As a family, we have enjoyed learning about and celebrating important aspects of our ancestry and culture. BHCFL has provided a safe and supportive environment for such exploration. Our family has a great appreciation for and interest in the Fine Arts. As members of Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida, we have benefited from partnerships that have been formed with organizations that desire to make these spaces more accessible to all.

We are not only thankful for what our family receives from the community (which we lovingly refer to as our village), but for the opportunity to serve within it as well.

My husband and I, along with our children, have been encouraged to offer input, share our interests and hobbies, and become facilitators of classes and activities that we feel will add value to the educational experience of all involved. We have also seen growth in our children as a result of classes offered by BHCFL that they have taken part in, such as etiquette and cooking.

It has been a beautiful exchange and we look forward to continuing to grow and learn with Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida in the years to come!

BHCF is an amazing organization! I run an umbrella school for home educators and have had the pleasure of participating in a few BHCF events. Each time I am in awe of the variety of activities this all-volunteer group of parents puts together for home educators in their area. Check out their website and see the help available to new home educators as well as their annual events and field trips galore. These parents are a terrific asset to their community and work hard to make home educating a joy for their member families.

I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to write about my experience with Ms. Denning at BHCFL. I am a new homeschooling parent, and I was feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. I was searching for a more urban support group, and I came across BHCFL's website. I was immediately impressed by the website's clear and concise information, and I was also glad to see that they do background checks on their members.

When I called BHCFL, Ms. Denning answered the phone. She was so kind, helpful, and informative. She answered all of my questions patiently and thoroughly, and she even took the time to listen to my concerns. I felt like she really understood where I was coming from, and she was able to offer me some valuable advice.

I was so impressed with Ms. Denning's professionalism and dedication to her work. She clearly cares about helping homeschooling families, and she is passionate about providing them with the resources they need to succeed. I am so grateful for her help, and I know that I would be in good hands if I decided to join BHCFL.

I was a couple of weeks too late to register my daughter for the upcoming school year, but I am already looking forward to the next open house or registration. I can't wait to join the BHCFL family and be a part of such a supportive and welcoming community.

Thank You,
D. Owens

A nonprofit exists because the creators of it are passionate and do what they care about whether they get a salary or not. Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida is simply that, a reflection of Sister Rasheeda Denning’s love of educating her own family and building a positive community that welcomes other homeschoolers of color. Homeschooling can be isolating, but together family’s can empower one another. Whether BHCFL are hosting the community expo, annual camping retreat, or just having weekly classes, again you see the efforts of hours of behind the scenes work at every gathering. This organization will leave a legacy in the community as it serves not only Black Families but even supports families that have adopted black children, as to uplift and empower and inspire one another. I love seeing Mrs. Denning’s children assist her, with all she does, it’s a blessing as she is a good leader and she leads a great example for all of them as well as for me. I am a leader, but when I can sit back and allow someone with more wisdom of me to guide me, it’s such a blessing, to be able to enjoy and learn. My family has homeschooled 6 kids for the last 17 years and I am so grateful that our homeschooling journey has led us here. We feel welcome and we get to serve, bring your love and gifts and of course homeschooling family to join Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida, you will be happy you did. Do not wait until the last minute to join as they are very organized and particular and if you miss the deadline, or fail to do your background checks, etc. you will be waiting until next year. This is a true homeschooling group, wherein the bulk of schoolwork for yo ur family is done at home, and the families come together for weekly learning and trips. There is even online learning, lots of fun trips, too many to name and community service as well. Thank you Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida for being here to support my family!!

Some of the offerings and activities that have truly enriched our learning and growing together as a family are the parent trainings, group classes, lending library, field trips, family retreat weekend, and much more. I joined black homeschoolers when my son was just shy of two years old. I had an interest in homeschooling my son but didn't have the resources. It was also important that I be apart of a community that valued the same fundamental approach on how I planned to educate my children. My son loves interacting with his friends that he's now known for three years and I have made lasting connections with the parent's in this group. I call them my village because everyone is always supportive and willing to offer guidance when needed. My son is starting kindergarten this upcoming school year and I feel prepared to start this journey knowing that I have back up should I require help through this group. I highly recommend this group to any family who is looking teach their brown children about their afrikan culture, experience culturally diverse field trips and build a community.
