Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Environment, Parks & Playgrounds

Mission: We are the non-profit cooperating arm of the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service. Our mission is to support these public land agencies with their interpretive, educational and research programs that protect and preserve the cultural and natural resources of the Black Hills and surrounding areas. This is accomplished by operating sales outlets in 16 public land locations throughout South Dakota, Wyoming, and the Nebraska Panhandle. Purchases from these sites support interpretive programming for our partner agencies. Thank you for supporting public lands with your purchase!

As someone who loves the Black Hills and surrounding plains, I appreciate what Black Hills Parks & Forests does to spread a message of conservation and protection of our public land resources. Living and working here as an author and publisher, I take great pride in knowing that our book sales through BHP&FA helps with their efforts, as a portion goes to support National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service interpretive, educational and historical projects. I encourage you to become a part of this wonderful organization with your purchases and your own membership. As more and more people "discover" the Black Hills, there's an increasing need to foster an appreciation of the natural environment, and a respect of cultural resources and the history of this area. With our help Black Hills Parks & Forests Association will be here to serve that need.

What a great organization! I learned about this nonprofit through our states Master Naturalist Program. Once I was trained, I offered to volunteer for the BHPFA. They are passionate about stewardship of public lands, education, and outreach to our communities! If you believe in conservation and education then this nonprofit is for you!

The beauty and wonder that we have in our national parks, forests, and monuments are worth our time and treasures. I give of mine to ensure these incredible resources are available now and for generations to come. I appreciate the work of the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association efforts towards interpretive programs, education, and preservation. It's a great organization to support and I highly recommend!

Black Hills Parks and Forest Association has been working with the National Park Service and the National Forest Service for years. As a retired park ranger I know personally how important their tireless efforts to support the parks and forests have been. The Adventures in Nature Program at Wind Cave National Park is only one of the many programs they have enhanced through donations in both time and money. Their efforts in creating and sustaining the Master Naturalist Program of South Dakota has helped prepare many volunteers to encourage others to be supporters and good stewards of the area's spectacular natural resources. This is an organization that was created more than 75 years ago, and they have excelled in helping to educate all of us about the resources in the Hills throughout their history. I highly support this organization.

We are proud members of Black Hills Parks and Forrest Association. A couple weeks ago we had the pleasure of taking our 5-year-old grandson to Wind Cave National Park. There we encountered a very energetic and positive Brad Keizer. Brad and Jasper attended a Ranger education program and found all the educational items in the Junior Ranger book. Jasper had such a great time exploring and learning about Wind Cave. He was Swarn in by a "Real Ranger" that very day! Us proud grandparents provided him with a Jr. Ranger Hat and Vest to wear and pin his badge on. This experience has opened our grandson's eyes to the beauty and excitement of our natural resources and parks. He proudly wears his badge and has pride in knowing he is part of a larger group that not only enjoys our natural resources and parks but helps preserve them. He loves to learn and is looking forward to exploring inside Wind Cave, Jewel Cave and beyond. Thank you to Brad Keizer, the Park Staff and all the fellow members for providing the educational materials, funding the education programs and making our national parks a wonderful place to visit and explore for adults and children.

Where to start?! This organization is serious about helping the Black Hills area in not only assisting visitors with any info they need to know about the great natural areas in the Black Hills region, but their volunteer programs are absolutely amazing! They provide so many educational programs like learning about local animals, leave no trace training, art contests, Indigenous history and everything in between! This organization really strives to help our beautiful National Parks. When helping to sponsor this program, you will see your donation go so far in awesome ways.
