Birthline provides emotional support, material assistance, referrals to other community resources for any pregnant woman, as well as women with small children.
We believe it is our obligation to encourage women to choose life and then support them in that choice.
We do this by offering our friendship, giving food, formula, diapers, clothing and referrals
to the community, including their own faith based church so as to help any pregnant woman, and women with small children.

Birthline offers hope and a helping hand to women and families often facing desperate situations. The volunteers encourage women to build a life for themselves and their families by connecting them with resources for education and job training, as well as helping them with immediate short term needs of food and clothing. The volunteers care very much about the women they serve and their children.

Since I've been volunteering at Birthline for a number of years, my only regret is that I'm getting older and will someday not be able any longer. Birthline is fulfilling for both the volunteer as well as the client, as they interact to find ways to solve problems. When a client says she is so thankful that we are there for her, it is the most wonderful feeling. And knowing that all donations go to provide services for the clients (there are no paid staff) makes it even more gratifying.

As a 10+ year volunteer of Birthline, I find it to be all I hoped for and more. It really does give its clients much of what they want and more of what they need. It is a life-saver for many. I also feel it is well worth the donations I give as well, since there is no paid staff and all the funds go into keeping it going all these 33+ years. When we take a picture of a mom and her new baby (one for our wall and one for mom) and present her with a layette of all new clothes and other items for her baby, it is a wonderful feeling, for us as well as for her.

My husband & I have been volunteering at Birthline Monday evenings for just about 2 years. This is the most amazing place. In particular Birthline welcomes everyone who has chosen to parent their children regardless of color, creed, citizenship etc. We see all kinds of needs come through the door and watch folks leave with real help & encouragement. Birthline is a blessing to clients & volunteers alike.

The Birthline is a wonderful source for families in crisis in San Diego County. The volunteers provide Counseling and referrals to many organizations that can help with Medical insurance, child care, education, jobs, housing and many other resources. They also provide food, clothes, diapers and friendship to families. I am a recently retired Public Health Nurse. I am now a volunteer with the Birthline because of the wonderful care and support that they gave the clients I referred to them. Jeanne

I am a volunteer at Birthline and have personally experienced the saving power of this organization. We do more than hand out diapers and formula. Women come to us scared, lonely and desperate. They leave knowing that they are not alone. We care and these women can feel it. Birthline has made me a more caring person. I love being able to put a smile on the faces of these beautiful women.

I have done some volunteering in the past at Birthlane. I have seen young women leaving the office with a smile in their face after receiving material help (bags with food, diapers, formula, etc) and also emotional support. The volunteers at Birthlane are heroes to me. You observe them and you see the work of charity in action. They are truly supporting young women and their families. I have also brought my children to help wrapping presents during Christmas time. It is a very rewarding experience and also an honor to work next to people that dedicate their lives to others. It is also a very good thing for children to observe.

My daughters Brownie troop earned their Bronze award helping Birthline. They saw first hand how their work and donations helped the mothers-to-be. It also showed them how difficult their struggles were, just providing the basic needs of their families. They do great work at birthline for both emotional and tangible support.

A long time ago I was young, unmarried, alone, pregnant and very scared. I sat down with one of the women in Birthline and I knew I would be alright. I wasn't going to keep the baby growing in me and I wasn't going to have it destroyed. I knew from the first moment I walked into their office what was right for me and right for the baby developing and growing inside of me. I wanted to choose a new set of parents for my child, and Birthline guided me the right direction. I look back now and wonder what would have happened if I went somewhere else. I was blessed. I now donate and help out with Birthline when I can. Thank you Birthline.

In today's world of mixed messages, fast paced society, and sadly a culture that doesn't respect life, it is inspirational and comforting to know that Birthline is there to provide a balanced, nuturing, caring, and sustainable environment for women. Birthline has been in San Diego to 30 years and has helped many women who may be have been in crisis - it is with their loving and giving hearts - that many of these women have made a rewarding decision. They are one of a kind!

My experience with a volunteer at Birthline was very positive. She is very dedicated, a great listener, and has a very big heart for what she is doing for Birthline and those who approach them. She is very committed to Birthline and also works with others in the community by looking for partners to support the coalition to help the poorest of poor pregnant and homeless women with children.

I am a volunteer at Birthline and am so proud to work with all the wonderful people and volunteers there. I teach full time at a college and volunteer on my lunch hour. I usually come there beaten down by all my work stress, but after spending an hour with the warm and awesome people there, I leave feeling uplifted and proud of the work I do and the people I work with. I am part of a Mom's Bible Study group that wanted to give back to the San Diego community by supporting a non-profit organization that supported mother’s in need. We chose Birthline of San Diego because of its amazing 33 year commitment to mothers and their children. We love how Birthline supports an expectant mother with her decision to have her child. As mothers we know the joy of holding a child in our arms for the first time and want every mother, whatever her circumstance, to have that same opportunity. We are proud to sponsor Birthline and the unsung work that they do.

Working in family services for over 6 years, I am so impressed with the work and dedication of Birthline. They support local families during difficult times and their staff of volunteers do a tremendous job of providing services to help build independence and future stability. My family and I will always do what we can to encourage their important work.

Catherine Ewers started Birthright during 1979 in a garage behind the rectory at St. Jude's Shine in Southcrest. Catherine's philosphy was that every women has the right to have her pregnancy be a joyful time in her life. And, every child has the right to live. Seeking to expand on what she started with Birthright become Birthline of San Diego County in 1990 with centers in Clairemont and Chula Vista. In 1988 she was among six counselors from Birthright to be honored at the White House by President Regan during a meeting with prolife organizations. My 20+ years as a volunteer has seen amazing growth as Birthlne continues with inspired volunteers who counsel mothers with children who need clothng, food, diapers, formula, and resource references that include food sources, housing, medical, child care, legal, etc. Imagine the emotion when a mother places her baby in a volunteer's arms and says, "Thank you for helping me keep my baby!"

Birthline is an organization helping women and children of the San Diego community. Having seen the amazing work they do firsthand, I know how appreciative the clients are that this organization is there to give them not only basic needs like food and diapers, but also referrals to help them acquire other desperately needed resources. Birthline helps women that just need to make ends meet on the occasional month or women that are homeless and need much more. And in the process of their much-needed assistance, the volunteers of Birthline exhibit an overwhelming amount of care and concern for their clients. I have been blessed to work alongside these women and pray for their continued success.

I donate to this organization because they reach so many desperate women who are pregnant or have young children. They have helped several homeless women get off the street in the last few months and this Christmas they are going to make baskets of food and toys for the families that need the most help.

Birthline of San Diego has been a SOLID pillar of the San Diego community run soley by volunteers for OVER 33 years. A group of compassionate and dedicated women provide not only daily provisions (diapers, food, formula, clothing/shoes) to the poorest of poor women and their children 0-5 years old. Birthline also advocates a better future for these families with a plethora of social services: counseling, education, medical, employment, housing and much, much more. Your financial donation/inkind donation helps over 2,000 women a year who would otherwise have no source of assistance because their families and or the baby daddy has abandoned them. We listen, guide and advocate for these women and the future unborn residents of San Diego. Heads down assisting the clients has been our focus; However, it's a new era of change, and communicating the word out to the community to tour and advocate for this gem is NOW. It's time that more individuals join the coalition already supported by many schools, government representatives, churches and women's organizations. Donate your apperal, money or your time, just get involved.
