Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animals, Wildlife Preservation & Protection

Mission: We are dedicated to conserving threatened species and their habitats through scientific research. Wildlife reserves in developing countries often have limited resources to effectively manage their wildlife populations. Biologists without Borders is a new non-profit that offers a unique approach to conservation needs. We provide professional wildlife biologists the opportunity to volunteer their time and expertise to important research projects around the world. We help match research needs of wildlife reserves with the expertise that enables them to achieve their management goals. In addition, we provide the necessary equipment to conduct that research. The results of our efforts allow managers to respond to key threats to species and habitat loss. Our approach also helps build bridges between U.S. scientists and their colleagues oversees.

Sue, the founder of Biologists without Borders, is super dedicated to helping African wildlife, while also supporting emerging conservationists seeking opportunities to conduct field research with African wildlife and ecologies.

Sue and her organization have made a huge impact in KwaZulu-Natal South Africa, funding many urgent wildlife interventions (collaring, monitoring tags, dehorning rhinos and more), while also bringing incredible support to Wild Tomorrow Fund's wildlife corridor project -saving and restoring habitat for threatened species.

My wife and I shared a wonderful and informative trip in South Africa with the staff of Biologists without Borders. The experience was way beyond what we had during a previous safari in the same country several years ago. The staff was more familiar with the animals and their habitat. The added chance to watch a veterinary dehorn a rhino and operate on an injured cheetah was unexpected. The Organization has my highest recommendation.

I was fortunate to be a part of one of the safaris with Biologists without Borders. What a fabulous experience! The choices of what reserves and parks we visited, the focus on seeing an enormous variety of animals while respecting their space and complex lives, the wonderful accommodations and meals which allowed us to rest and recharge for the next day's adventure, the knowledge and generosity of information provided by all the guides, and the opportunity to be a part of helping protect and increase these beautiful reserves and all the amazing animals who live there was over and above my expectations.

Besides supporting important research all over South and East Africa, BWB is walking the talk with there on-the-ground make a difference protection of habitat and the species supported in that environment. I had the great opportunity to see the early stages of their conservation work as they acquired land to link protected areas. I participated in one of their sponsored safaris in South Africa that was life changing trip with the profound up close and, at times, very personal interactions with the animals. I know the people involved to be extremely dedicated, knowledgeable, and on a personal mission to carry out their objectives.

The 2018 brochure for the two-week BWB South Africa safari promised the “Experience of a Lifetime” and, indeed, this adventure surpassed all my expectations. The close encounters with wildlife were breathtaking, and our group participated in wildlife preservation activities that included dehorning a rhino, treating an injured cheetah and releasing zebra into new territory. Sue Orloff’s organization and management of our safari were outstanding. All of the guides and biologists were superb. Our accommodations – lodging, food and drinks ¬– were exceptional. And our small group of 13 allowed camaraderie to flourish. It was truly the experience of a lifetime.

Sue Orloff the President of Biologist Without Borders put together a wonderful program that includes a wildlife tour and real on the ground research. I went on her South Africa tour in 2020. Absolutely a peak experience every day. She supports local biologist. We contribute a few hundred dollars each to buy scientific supplies and field supplies for the wardens. She and her program are best of the best. Robert R. Abbott Ph.D.

This is an amazing organization that is doing so much to conserve endangered wildlife in Africa. We had the privilege of going on safari with a group in 2018, and it was the best travel experience we have ever had! Not only did we see abundant wild game, we were present for a surgery on a cheetah, the dehorning of a rhino, and release of zebra onto a new preserve. We learned so much about so many species. It was priceless.

I joined a Biologists with Borders field trip in Africa and had an amazing time. Sue Orloff was a wonderful group leader who had arranged an amazing trip where we were able to see some fantastic wildlife, meet amazing rangers and hear their stories, as well as visiting project sites and behind the scenes experiences.
I highly recommend Biologists with Borders as a go to charity if you want to support the rangers and wildlife of Africa.

I went on BwB's first safari offered to friends and supporters. The net result of this and subsequent trips was successful fundraising for the acquisition of a land corridor connecting two large reserves in South Africa, and thus eliminating the need for future human management of the animals on these lands. This was a superb, life-changing experience of Africa and its wildlife, conducted by Sue Orloff, founder of BwB, and Wild Tomorrow Fund, her partners in this undertaking. These reserves are now safe haven for endangered wildlife in perpetuity. The expertise and commitment of everyone involved in this enterprise is impressive, heartwarming, and enormously productive. When they set goals, they reach them! And give all of us who help transcendent experiences in the process.

I have been impressed by how much Biologists without Borders (BWB) has accomplished in the relatively short time they have been operating. Conservation projects from helping preserve elephant habitat to protecting lions from poaching, BWB is well on their way to becoming a top-notch charity for animal conservation. I am proud to be one of their donors.

Biologists without Borders was started by my childhood friend who has always loved animals. As a retired biologist, she finally was able to fulfill her life long dream to take action against the atrocities and paths of extinction that have been jeopardizing many of our larger animals. BOB works with national parks, wildlife reserves, and independent research organizations around the world that are in need of assistance with their research and management programs. Please join me in helping this organization save some of the most venerable, and threatened animals on our planet.

Having worked for a number of non-profits and served on the boards of others, I can say that BWB has the key qualities worth supporting: dedicated, expert leadership; focus on problem-solving; vision for long-term impact; 95% of donations spent on projects. BWB works directly with wildlife reserves that have identified threats to species but lack the resources to resolve them. The needed scientific experts, equipment, training, and other support are then provided through BWB. Project research and results are made available to assist wildlife reserves and government agencies worldwide.

This is a small company with a big heart- funding scientific studies, buying conservation land, and supporting anti-poaching operations to protect African wildlife. The president, Sue Orloff, is devoting her life to this effort and teaming with other conservation organizations and parks to conduct research intended to save species in peril. BWB also supports graduate students looking for meaning thesis projects.
