Bindlestiff's Open Stage Variety has helped me become a better performer. Bindlestiff's Open Stage Variety gives performers that ability to try out new material and gives us an opportunity to work our craft something that I am eternally grateful for. Dave Cremin/ Family Entertainer.
Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts, INc. has made it's mission statement come to life by supporting the variety arts community through performances, through opportunities for emerging artists, and through educational outreach to encourage the next generation of circus and variety artists in America. Bindlestiff's focus on combining the history of American popular entertainment with a fresh twist on creation, performance and interpretation has made a unique and immediately identifiable identity.
For almost 5 years I have had the tremendous opportunity to be a part of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. Over the last 4 or 5 years, I have been privileged to be on the road with the Bindlestiffs - seeing places I've never been, meeting people that I would otherwise never know. Working with the Bindlestiffs have opened my world in ways I couldn't describe. Before the Cirkus, I was far less outgoing and my shyness kept me from doing what I love. Not only do I now have the confidence, but the Bindlestiffs also made me aware of my importance - not just in the Cirkus - but in my home, my community, and among my family and friends. If there is one thing that I can take away from this experience - it is the ability to feel proud of my work and accomplishments. The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus is all about helping people grow, achieve their goals, and surpassing expectations. There is no doubt in my mind when I say the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus has changed my life - they have allowed me to realize my capabilities in circus and in everyday life. They have, and continue to, fulfill my knowledge of circus. It is because of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus that I am doing what I do - and they are the reason I love it so much. The term "Family" they use may seem metaphorical to most - but for me, it has become the truth. For the past 4 years, I have met many people who have developed into a loving, supportive, and caring family that want only the best for each other. I have been surrounded by loving and thoughtful individuals who have offered me more than I could ever repay. I can't imagine my life now without the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus.
Bindlestiff brings joy and laughter to those who need it. I have seen them a few times and their professionalism, style and good nature stand out in every performance. They teach kids skills, encourage community involvment and put smiles on faces. What more could you ask for?
I worked with the Bindlestiffs in their small theater in Time's Square, before the building was sold to developers. Their crispness, their dedication to the circus arts, and their unique perspective has been an inspiration to an emerging generation of oddball, dark, and quirky performers.
I have seen this company present several events, and have been completely blown away by their product. Their youth shows are incredible - a clear demonstration of an organization that has tangible public value.
As a volunteer who has become a board member, I have seen Bindlestiff play an incredibly supportive role in the variety arts arena -- giving new acts and emerging artists a forum to develop new material, creating a vibrant community of performers, and bringing young artists into an old tradition. Bindlestiff is not just keeping an art form alive but giving it new life.
