Causes: Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Children & Youth
Mission: To create and support relationships that provide consistent, positive, one-to-one interaction between a single parent child and an adult volunteer who will be an advisor and friend on the journey from childhood to adulthood.
Programs: Big brothers big sisters of the bluegrass, inc. Programs include matching bigs with littles in school mentoring programs and community mentoring programs. Big brothers big sisters match successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all. In 2014, big brothers big sisters of the bluegrass served 503 children, made 168 new matches and exceeded a 28 month average match length.
I have worked with BBBS of the Bluegrass now for 3 years not only as a Big but also in the office in Danville. As a precaution against the mentioned issue happening again there are many checks and balances that have been put in place to insure that it does not occur again. It is a truly great charity and it is unfortunate that sometimes people take advantage of a good thing for their own gains.
