Causes: Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Children & Youth
Mission: The mission of big brothers big sisters of new york city is to provide mentors to all children who need caring adult role models--special friends who can help expand their horizons, realize their potential and enrich their futures--changing their lives. We seek to train community organizations in every neighborhood empowering them to establish their own mentoring programs.
Programs: The organization served over 5,500 youth in fiscal-year 2017. Of those, approximately 2,500 youth were provided with one-to-one mentoring from trained adult volunteers for approximately 214,000 hours worth of services. The remaining 3,000 youth participated in one day opportunities at the schools or corporations, where volunteers shared core competencies, experiences and wisdom in group program sessions, which focused on professional skill building and workplace themes. In addition, program services are also in the form of support groups, referrals, and client advocacy, recreation, and educational workships including tutoring, sat/act prep, and college trips.
