Mission: Bethany housing ministries inc provides persons of low and moderate income affordable, decent housing, to support persons during their transition to more permanent housing and to act as an advocate for persons facing housing needs.
Programs: Through its transitional, permanent supportive and service enriched housing programs, bethany housing ministries inc offers affordable housing in nelson, mclaughlin and angell neighborhoods in muskegon michigan.
mclaughlin grows is an organic urban farm located in the mclaughlin neighborhood. Its location is behind the headquarters of goodwill industries. Goodwill industries donated the use of the land for the program; the community foundation for muskegon county donated funds to cover the start-up coast; a program coordinator was hired with an organic farming certification from msu; and six neighborhood youth were hired through the youth employment program (yep) to work at the farm.
healthy neighborhood project (hnp) is a collaborative neighborood organizing project of the following 5 key partners in the mclaughlin neighborhood: agape christian fellowhip, bethany church, new life christian center, community encompass and the mclaughlin neighborhood assoc. Based on the philosophy of asset based community development (abcd), hnp is an effort to organize neighbors around common gifts, and areas of inerest and concern. Hnp puts power and control into the hands of neighbors so their vision for change becomes the agenda for change, as so their gifts are the primary tool for the change.
