Bethany is making a huge difference in the lives of youth. These youth come to Bethany for a safe haven away from the negative influences in their lives, allowing them to be cared for, encouraged and to envision a future much different from their past. The staff at Bethany dedicate so much time and energy to ensure these youth feel better about themselves, and can trust in others who are looking out for their best interests.
I volunteer with Bethany Children's Home as part of the development committee. We meet once a month to go over upcoming events and fundraisers. The events are centered around helping the community engage with Bethany and to learn the mission, which is to help residents heal, regardless of how they came to Bethany.
The organization also hosts fundraisers, and Bethany sure puts the "FUN" in Fundraiser! The tribute dinner is the highlight of the year. It allows for donors to hear the stories from former residents, and to hear the staff speak about the life changing work they do. Another highlight is the Christmas gift drive. A lot of the residents have not experienced holidays in a traditional sense, so allowing the community to come together and give the gift of Christmas to these children is truly heartwarming.
I enjoy volunteering and pouring of myself into this non-profit because I know that the work I'm doing will impact lives for many years to come.
Bethany has helped thousands of children over 163 years to have a brighter future. Today severely traumatized children, who are usually victims of human trafficking or potential victims of human trafficking, spend time healing and learning how to go on to be productive citizens. The caring staff work with the children and help them heal from that trauma.
Last month we heard from a girl whose adoptive parents told her she was worthless, locked her in a closet and refused to feed her. After being placed at Bethany, she went on to earn a college degree, has a great job and now gives back to Bethany. That is an example of the future that is possible for those children with help from an organization like Bethany Children's Home
