Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs
Mission: Bernie's Book Bank creates pathways to success through children's book ownership. Our organization empowers children to explore new ideas, gain knowledge and strengthen reading skills with free quality books of their own.
Results: Since 2009, Bernie's Book Bank has distributed more than 2.5 MILLION free quality children's books to Chicagoland children ages birth through 6th grade.
Target demographics: Children in Title I schools and early childhood programs including WIC.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 315,000 children
Geographic areas served: Chicago and the six surrounding counties.
Programs: Bernie's Book Bank provides 8 free quality books annually to 315,000 Chicagoland children ages birth through 6th grade. We offer volunteer opportunities for all ages and abilities in our 65,000 square foot facility in Lake Bluff, as well as various fundraising events.
