I would encourage anyone that is considering volunteering or working here, or making a donation, to do some thorough research. Read numerous, current reviews written by former employees on Indeed.com. The reviews there mirror what I was told by current employees while volunteering there. They seem to point to fear based management that doesn't respond to concerns about animal or employee welfare. There are employees there that absolutely care about providing the highest quality care for the animals. They have a 2 star rating at Charity Navigator. When we recently adopted the overall experience was very good, but there was one employee in particular that was extremely unpleasant to deal with on multiple occasions. The descriptions on the website largely use several cut and pasted phrases over and over again. You realize quickly they probably don't give an accurate assessment of each animal and are done for the sake of expediency more than accuracy. If they have an animal on their website you are interested in, I would encourage you to adopt it if you have a good meet and greet. It's what is best for the animals. As far as working, volunteering or donating, I would do your own research and be careful.
A year after my wife started helping BFHS show adoptable pets, I joined her. When they were forced by the economic down-side of converting to no-kill to give up a large, expensive shelter, we both stuck with BFHS while they found and purchased a smaller facility. BFHS is a very dedicated organization and has maintained it's no-kill policy despite the reduced revenue. We found our Akita-Chow mix, Kopi, at BFHS and have helped while some 8000+ cats and dogs have found new homes over the 12 years since we got involved.
