This organization has a great message of the importance of intentional acts of kindness and how impactful those acts can be. However, this organization fails to uphold its mission statement in the treatment of its employees. Its reputation has severely plummeted in the community as it is known for fostering a hostile work environment rife with bullying for years. It also had to furlough most of its staff last year because it focuses more on maintaining high salaries for staff members who bring little revenue into the organization itself, while exploiting labor from low-level employees it keeps at flex or part-time by encouraging them to falsify timecards and omit actual hours they worked.
Imagine the real change and positive impact they could be making if most of their revenue went into their programming and volunteer experiences instead of over-paying inflated salaries to low-revenue-earning employees. They routinely stay in debt and there is a reason many in the Tucson artist community refuses to contribute free labor or goods for their yearly fundraiser, despite constant harassment from its administrative staff, because many have family or friends who have been exploited or discriminated against by the very organization that props itself up to be all about being kind and inclusive while behind closed doors they do the opposite. Every person I have encountered who has had a negative experience being employed by or volunteering there tends to be a person of color, has a disability, is of a different gender identity, or is LGBTQIA. I foresee a discrimination lawsuit or even a total bankruptcy in their near future if they don't get rid of the rotten apples on their payroll and board of directors.
