Benjamin and Edith Spaulding Descendants Foundation (BESDF) has revived the legacy of Cong. George Henry White by renovating a vacant farmhouse into a thriving community center where educational programs for workforce development, health, financial literacy, environmental and land management, food programs and historical preservation are being carried out. The George Henry White Memorial Health and Education Center serves the rural, underserved people of Bladen and Columbus counties, NC, which are 100th and 97th in economy, education and health outcomes. Renovated through volunteerism, partnerships with businesses, individual donations and institutional donations of projectors, computers, screens and whiteboards, it has been operational since 2020, with programs in nutrition, fitness, electrical contractor training, computer skills and computer networking training, crafts, management of chronic illness, and much more. It was honored by Preservation NC, for innovative use of an historic property. It serves people of all ethnicities and ages, and is handicap-accessible as well.
