Volunteering with Bay Area Tutoring Association has been such fulfilling experience. I wouldn't have been able to succeed as a tutor without the guidance and care of our program manager. They made sure to provide us the tools and support for us to help the students succeed in their learning and education.

My experience started through a class where we were pitched by different organizations to come volunteer in order to earn service learning hours. Ale from Bay Area Tutoring gave the best pitch and I was drawn to BATA right away. My experience there was nothing short of amazing and I learned a lot about how to work with kids and teach different types of learners. The organization was run extraordinarily by the staff there and I never felt like there was a lack of resources or communication. I would definitely come back and volunteer more of my time for BATA as it's clear that they are dedicated to their cause.

As a students at SJSU who volunteered at BATA. My duty is help the kids to help become better readers, while at the same time create fun activities to keep them engaged throughout the whole semester. At first I didn’t know what to do but thank my site leader and those who teach me the ropes, overtime I got the hang of it, while volunteering there I have learned to be a better coordinator with other tutors with their lesson plan, and how we executed. But sometimes it can get a bit hectic when students are rowdy, but most of the time the students are well behaved and engaged with the lesson and overall I enjoyed volunteering at BATA and I will missed the people who help every step of the way.

Working with Bay Area Tutoring Association has been a very fulfilling endeavor. Every day I am proud to be a part of what BATA offers to the community by providing accessible, quality education, especially to the underprivileged. BATA also helps tutors improve their contribution to that effort, offering them opportunities to build experience for their own futures. BATA respects people: clients, students, tutors, and all who work with them. That is why it succeeds year after year for almost 10 years. I look forward to many more successful BATA programs.

I volunteered with them around the beginning of 2023 to the middle of the same year. I had an amazing experience with all the other tutors I have met along with the kids I tutored. BATA does strive in helping the youth and it shows in the way that they are very dedicated and open to meeting the needs of every child. Overall, you can trust them as a place that will help your kid achieve academic success.

I had an amazing experience here when I was asked to do community service here for my university and it was great. This organization really does their part to give back to the community and help students with their struggles with school. I was able to do my part in assisting this organization for the better and got to do hands on work with students of all kinds. I would suggest this to other classmates of mine because how well my experience went here and I am going to return here if ever needed!

During my last semester at SJSU, I tutored with BATA. I was a bit nervous to tutor elementary school kids because I did not know what to expect from the students. From my previous experience, the students that I used to tutor were rebellious and did not stay on task.
This was not the case in my experience with BATA. The students were attentive and listened to their teacher. There were times when they would get off task but I was able to get them to pay attention with simple motivations and initiatives. The students were shy initially but over a few sessions, they warmed up to me. I noticed that they get excited when they see me.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with BATA and will recommend them to anyone who wants to make an impact on the younger generation.

I had a wonderful experience as a tutor in the San Jose State University tutoring program. As a volunteer tutor at the Cupertino Public Library, I worked with elementary school students. Many students have relied on me for help with their reading, writing, and math assignments. I think it's important for everyone, but especially someone with a background in communication studies like myself, to know the basics of tutoring and professional kid assistance. Working with BATA has been a delight.

I worked with BATA as a volunteer tutor over the course of my last semester in college and had a great experience. As a general tutor, I managed to reach out to several students K through 9 that needed help with their studies. Learning about the process of helping students as someone who had no experience prior was eye opening and an opportunity that I am glad to have taken part in. Working through the training and eventually teaching was a quick yet very informative process and I truly believe that volunteer tutors can make a significant difference in helping students from all walks of life.

It was fun getting to work with children! I had to learn how to teach children and brush over the basics of both English and Math. Though my volunteer spot was far from my house, it felt worth it when I got closer to the children I tutored. A lot of them are regulars, and teaching them was fun!

Bay Area Tutoring Association is one of the best experiences that I have had as a tutor and volunteer for a nonprofit. Everyone that I have encountered in this program has truly been professional and extremely welcoming and kind. The program has been well organized to make it easy as a tutor to be able to put my focus on the work with the kids, as opposed to having to worry about being cared for. I also feel as though the work is rewarding and celebrated amongst myself, other tutors, as well as our supervisors. Great environment and great work done for others!

One thing that sticks out to me about this tutoring association is that the leaders legitimately care about the students they are working with. They put a lot of time, effort, and thought into how they are interacting with these kids. They are mindful about each child's background, living situations, relationships, etc. I find these leaders to be trusting and safe people for students to be around!

I volunteered with Bay Area Tutoring Association as a part of my Community Action & Service class at San Jose State University.

They provided good training and guidance, gave tips on how to help students understand and learn the material, and checked in to make sure tutoring sessions were going well.

It was very satisfying having the opportunity to help the students. They were grateful, wanted to learn and enjoyed getting help.

Also, I was able to work online, which was very convenient for me.

My time with the Bay Area Tutoring Association has been a very rewarding experience that I would recommend to others.

I found out about bay area tutoring through my university. I decided to do my service learning here and since I have started I've been able to gain more experience working with students both online and in person. It's helped me grow more as a tutor and learn things that relate to my field of study which is child and adolescent development.

The other tutors that I have met during this program have really been dedicated to helping students and creating a safe, accessible space. At our site, we have a few students who come on a consistent basis. The trust and rapport we have built with them is rewarding in itself, but seeing the students grow in confidence is wonderful. We had a student come in who had recently moved to the United States. A lot of their homework is in English and my fellow tutor and I did our best to translate and make directions clearer for them. They are an awesome kid and it's a privilege to play a small part in their story. I think this organization and program have a lot of potential.

In my feeling, the excellent feeling is that through the voluntary service platform, my vision is wider, my soul is purer and more thorough, and my happiness in the process of dedication is deeper. In the whole working process, we are not representing individuals, but the reputation of Bay Area Tutoring Association. So the better you do, the better schools and departments will reflect on others. We smile at everyone, do our best in work , and always help children when they need help. If you like interacting with children and want to pass on what you have learned to them, a good communication environment and excellent working friends, you will like it here!

Bay Area Tutoring is an excellent non-profit. The work they do for the youth, schools, and community is amazing and life changing.

I love the approach taken. Instead of just working on academics, they take a holistic perspective and really get to know the kids they work with and become a part of the village around them.
