On March 8, 2018, I was blessed to deliver a keynote speech titled "Innovation as Empowerment: Celebrating Women Entrepreneurs Inventing Their Futures" to 50 aspiring teen girls participating in the annual Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship International Women's Day event held at the iconic Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. BAFEF was the sponsor who hosted the event and made the speaker honorarium possible. I found the two-part event simply STELLAR: a morning keynote for 50 female entrepreneurs of color from 8 Bay Area high schools followed by 1:1 mentoring sessions after lunch where 50 women volunteers from San Francisco's financial industry sat with the girls and listened to their business plans, marketing plans and served as business mentors. What a phenomenal day! I am so grateful to Tina, Theodore and everyone at BAFEF who made this event possible for us all at this most spectacular location! Here's the group photo shared by NFTE San Leandro Executive Director Alfredo Mathew, taken by Unity HS teacher Daniel Zarazua. I hope to be of service to BAFEF soon, in English and in Spanish, as they work to economically empower our communities. I'm in the San Francisco East Bay (510) 542-9449 should anyone have questions about this event. Thank you!

BAFEF has supported economic education programs through the Center for Economic Education at Cal State East Bay for several years. This enables us to reach teachers directly to introduce methods, materials, and content for teaching California's high school economics class. BAFEF's generous support of economic and financial literacy education in the Bay Area is much appreciated and making a difference. We at the Cal State Center for Economic Education and the California Council on Economic Education look forward to many more collaborative projects.

BAFEF has been a wonderful champion of financial literacy in the Bay Area. Through their support of the SIFMA Foundation's Stock Market Game program, over 185 schools and 10,000 students in the area are gaining a fundamental understanding of the important life skills of saving and investing.

BAFEF’s programs get results. Money is wisely invested. BAFEF is positively impacting the lives of students, encouraging youth to achieve and learn, building self-esteem, and making productive members of society. The overhead is modest, particularly given the large city where they operate. I strongly recommend giving and/or volunteering with BAFEF, as I have personally witnessed the light bulb go on with students, thinking about the possibilities that exist for them.

The BAFEF has established its mission statement as:

The Bay Area Financial Education Foundation provides funding to enhance the financial education and research programs for the benefit of the San Francisco Bay Area, both among CFASF membership and the community at large, in keeping with the standards embodied in the CFA designation.

Since its inception in 2007, it has adhered to that statement, expanding the linkage between financial education resources available to the Bay Area and the CFA-centric investment community.
