I wish to thank from the bottom of my heart, the BACA program and everyone working there. I have a troubled teen that was very unhappy and withdrawn. I just a week or two, I started seeing a smile on his face and he showed a more positive outlook on life. Everyone at BACA, from the front staff to counselors, to the doctors are there to help your child.
I have received valuable information, and support on how to deal with my son. I would highly recommend this program to anyone with a troubled child.

I have been taking two of my children to BACA for treatment of anxiety disorders. Dr. Tarshis and both therapists that work with my kids and myself and husband have been extremely helpful to our family. They not only treat the children, but also make sure the parents are receiving treatment and family therapy as well. This agency is amazing because they don't just write out prescriptions and expect you to medicate your children as a lot of other doctors do these days. They want to really get to know your child and family to help in the appropriate areas that need attention and will also prescribe medication in conjunction if necessary. They are ethical and treat the children well. The kids have toys and books to play with so they look forward to coming and welcomed and at home. They also have snacks available for hungry kids coming strait from school for their appointments. It's difficult to find mental health services for children that take insurance, this place does bill your insurance directly. Before I discovered BACA, I had called literally 30 therapists listed on my insurance company website, but they were either not taking new patients, were no longer accepting insurance, not specializing in treating adolescents or unqualified etc.

My son spent his senior year of high school under the care of Dr. Tom Tarshis and Virginie Goldstein, being treated for ADHD and social anxiety. I was so glad that they were Blue Cross providers. They took great care over the first few weeks to carefully diagnose my son's situation. Once we discovered the ADHD, Dr. Tarshis supervised our son's trial of medications. Once our son decided the medications were not helping him, Dr. Tarshis supported him in his decision to stop the medications. Virginie was "just what the doctor ordered" for counseling for our son. He started the year insecure about his relationships with his friends and needed someone other than his parents to help him work it out. A year later, he is finishing his first year at a UC, feeling confident, making friends, and having a very successful school year. I am very grateful to BACA for helping our son make the transition into adulthood. I have since gladly recommended BACA to other parents.

My son has been under the care of Tom Tarshis for the past year. This clinic has been nothing but wonderful. Tom works very closely with Virginie, the therapist and both communicate with each other on a regular basis as well as the school when the need arises and it has! I have full confidence in Dr. Tarshis, managing my son's meds. He is also very prompt in answering my phone calls, emails and addressing my concerns as well as refilling prescriptions. He does great on follow up visits and is on top of everything. He is a very reliable, kind and gentle person. He even encourages his patients to call him Tom. My son loves to talk to him and has built a positive, trusting relationship with him. The office staff is also very nice. They have always been flexible and accommodating when setting up appointments. Everyone is professional and the office is very inviting and child friendly with lots of toys and things to do in the reception area. We feel very fortunate to have found this clinic and my child's behavior and self esteem has improved greatly since we have been under their care. He is more able to cope with his feelings of anxiety and we are more capable of parenting him positively. Lastly, they accept and bill insurance, saving us a big head ache.

My teenage son has been seeing Tom Tarshis for about 3 years. He has helped us through our Sons Wilderness/Boarding School experience as well as the transition after coming home in May. I can't say enough good things about BACA and Dr. Tom Tarshis. He has a special gift - he knows how to work with the kids at their level and has a way of getting through to them. I feel very blessed that my husband and I found BACA and Tom Tarshis. Tom shows a personal interest in the well being of our child. He always quick to answer emails when I write to him out of frustration. He offers a solution and gets to work on the situation. I do not think that we could have survived our ordeal with our teenage son if it weren't for Dr. Tom Tarshis. I would feel confident to recommend this organization to any parent in need of a good Therapist.

We have been seeing Dr. Tarshis for about 4 years or so. Our 16 year old son has been a constant challenge to us and many days we have been at our wits end. Dr. Tom has been there to guide us and has saved our "wits" many times. He is very patience and seems to really "get" the kids.

I am a parent of a teenage daughter who has benefited tremendously from the services provided by the Bay Area Children Association (BACA). My daughter was having emotional issues due to her father and my pending divorce. She was left with no motivation to go to school or hang out with her friends or family. She could not find any joy in the activities that she used to love. My daughter was diagnosed with severe depression by the psychiatrists at BACA and recommendations were made for her treatment which included therpy and medication.

She is still under treatment but has made wonderful progress in the last few months. Now, she likes to hang out with her friends. She is motivated to go to school and do well. Her grades have improved but most of all, she is able to enjoy life again.

I can't thank the Bay Area Childrens Association enough for the worderful work they do for the children suffering from mental health issues.
