Mission: The primary purpose of bay area barns and trails (babt) is to preserve and restore publicly accessible equestrian properties, open space, agricultural lands, wildlife habitat,and outdoor recreation by providing grants and technical support for land, trails and stable acquisition, restoration, and construction. Babt also supports environmental education programs. Technical support consists of volunteer trail management and building basic structures as well as providing expertise on a voluteer basis regarding barn preservation, trail planning and land management. Babt may also conduct other activities eclusively for charitable or educational purposes.
Programs: Babt's 2014 grant program included grants to the following: alta bowl horse owners association for horse hill water project. San ramon valley horsemen's association to build a manure bunker at a trail head. Ocean riders of marin for environmental protection projects (pending). Marin stables & trails for the arena project. Tilden wildcat horsemen's assoc. For education/outreach at the east bay hills trails benefit ride. Friends of bear creek stables to support for an enlarged site plan. Santa clara horsemen's assoc. For trail improvement - water trough on the bay area ridge trail. Community horse advocacy program for trail improvement project to repair and add railings to a bridge on the crystal springs trail in huddart park.
