The self sacrifice the volunteers have, to drop everything at a moments notice and run to the scene of an emergency is astounding. I have personally seen United Hatzalah volunteers leave business meetings and even a groom on the day of his wedding run to save someone's life. Mission: United Hatzalah volunteers provide lifesaving medical care on the scene of emergencies prior to arrival of an ambulance. Medics arrive on average, within 2-4 minutes of the call for help, often faster. Receiving initial treatment within 4 minutes of the incident assures a higher chance of survival in critical situations, and speedier recovery from injuries and illness. The United Hatzalah medics treat and stabilize the patient and then integrate with the arriving ambulance crew who arrive typically 8-10 minutes after the initial call for help. In times of war and in times of peace, from missile strikes to hemorrhagic strokes, from terror attacks to heart attacks, from car accidents to childbirths – United Hatzalah medics are prepared for any eventuality.Research has shown, time and again, that no matter how advanced the medical centers, if the severely ill or injured person does not receive adequate treatment within the first 5 minutes after an event, he or she has a far poorer chance of full recovery. Furthermore, the quality of treatment administered in those first precious moments plays a pivotal role in the degree of recuperation of those who do make it to the emergency room.
Results: United Hatzalah's volunteers treated over 190,000 lives in 2011. United Hatzalah's President & Founder, Eli Beer, received the 2011 Presidential Award for Volunteerism from President Shimon Peres (Israel). President & Founder Eli Beer was awarded the Social Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2010 from the World Economic Forum in Davos.
