Mission: Battery Dance connects the world through dance. The Company pursues artistic excellence and social relevance by creating vibrant new works, performing on the world’s stages, presenting dance in public spaces, serving the field of dance and teaching people of all ages with special attention to the disadvantaged and areas of conflict. Battery Dance is committed to enhancing the cultural vibrancy of its home community in New York City, extending programming throughout the U.S., and building bridges worldwide through international cultural exchange.
Programs: Dancing to connect international/ international touring and cultural diplomacy- performing, collaborating, teaching and engaging in bilateral cultural engagement in more than 60 countries; representing the u. S. As a state department cultural envoy and embassador on tours of the middle east, africa, south asia, europe and south america and engaging thousands of young people in countries around the world in creating and performing their own choreography.
battery dance festival / presentation of dance performances and production of a substantive dance outreach program - presenting the battery dance festival for more than 30 years, showcasing 16-20 local and international dance companies annually, reaching audiences of approximately 1,000 each day in festivals that last from 7 to 14 days presented free to the public.
studio share program/ support for the larger new york dance community - providing low-cost studio space for hundreds of small dance and theater groups each year, forming cooperative partnerships with other organizations to promote and expand arts and arts education projects in nyc.
