My husband and I decided to foster a dog a little over a month ago. We were promised that before she was adopted we would be given the option to adopt.

Not only were we not given that option, we were threatened with a visit from the deputy. We received this threat because we didn't immediately respond to the messages sent to us telling us that our foster had been adopted. We received 3 phone calls and 3 messages within a 14 hour period of time starting at 8 in the evening and carrying on until a little after 10am the following Saturday morning. We had no service and responded as soon as we received the messages.

We believe we were treated this way because we sought the opinion of the local vet who our contact at BAWF had a disagreement with.

We were forced to give up our foster and have yet to receive a response from the foundation regarding the threat to involve law enforcement. We reached out to both the founder and the entire board of directors.

Tried to adopt a dog from them. We are experienced dog owners, have a large fenced yard, our application was passed, references and vet reports were good. Was given driving directions of where to pick up the dog by the interview lady and she told us all we had to do next was call and speak to the people at the kennel where the dog was housed. I also got an email from Joanne, founder of the rescue telling me to call and speak to the woman at the kennel. When I called, she wasn't available so had nice conversation with her husband. When I emailed back, I got a snot-gram from Joanne telling me that the husband has nothing to do with placing the dogs. Right after that, I got the generic message from the rescue saying we were rejected. I sent several messages back telling them that I wasn't disputing their decision but wanted to know WHY we were rejected after getting so far in the adoption process. All of my messages were ignored. Very rude and unprofessional.

This organization's business practices are deceptive. I adopted a dog for $250 that purportedly was fully vetted. Within a week my vet diagnosed her as having a genetic condition requiring $5k in surgery. The BAWF agreed to pay for the surgery if we surrendered the dog temporarily to be taken to their veterinarian. This agreement was repeated on the phone and in e-mails. We were promised the surgery would be performed by a veterinarian specialist and that we would be able to re-adopt our little dog afterwards, with whom we had become quite attached. After picking up the dog for surgery the BAWF quit communicating with us except for a 1 sentence e-mail a week later saying that the dog would no longer be available for adoption. They have not returned multiple calls and e-mails over the last 30 days. We fear our dog was euthanized. We are heartbroken. We had other options to pursue to provide this dog needed surgery. This organization should be closed down. They are an embarrassment to the state of Virginia.
