Programs: Barrio youth center is a safe haven that provides 3,000 children and adolescents with daily center based productive programs and activities. Ages served are 6 to 18 years. The youth are at high risk of school drop-out, drug experimentation and addiction, youth crime, and gang involvement. The center's facilities include computer & learning lab, cardio and exercise equipment, boxing classes, general recreation room, kids korner, a swimming pool, and a theater. The youth enjoy special holidays, cultural celebrations, and state and national holidays. They further experience quality life styles and bright futures. Project embrace is a counseling and guidance program aimed at children of all ages with assistance to senior citizens reaching needs for 24 hour care, advance instructions, and options for 24 hour care facilities. Project provides case management both short and long term, individual and group counseling, behavioral adjustment, and family counseling to improve chaotic situations in the home. The project receives court ordered and probation ordered placements, school referrals, and walk-in clients. Furthermore, it provides assistance to college bound and work ready high school students in need of scholarships, options, and job readiness referrals and resources. Neighborhood revitalization support provides advocacy, leadership development, catalyst support, and direct training to community residents and organization leaders. This service provides on-going leadership in neighborhood justice efforts giving community members with process information in land use efforts such as bringing in tools like redevelopment designation, special parking permits, affordable housing and more. We organize community empowerment working committees, create media and public demonstrations as appropriate to bring an end to injustices and discriminatory practices by governmental agencies.
