I "happened upon" The Barnyard Sanctuary while doing a road trip exploring farm sanctuaries in the eastern part of the US. I spent two days working alongside Tamela helping clean and care for her animals. Of all the sanctuaries I had the opportunity to visit/volunteer at, Tamela was/is the most incredibly hard working, dedicated, ETHICAL person. She struggles to provide all these animals with love and care while working with a very small staff, minimal overhead and budget. I have become a regular donor and participate on a volunteer advisory board with Tamela to help her find a new spot for her 4-legged family and expand her non-profit to provide opportunities for people and animals in need.

No one cares more for animals than the Founder of The Barnyard Sanctuary, Tamala. She is a dedicated and passionate advocate for farm animals and spends every waking moment at the farm. The animals there are all fat and happy and she is very strict about how they are cared for. You can tell they are all her babies. It's a wonderful experience to go there and help take care of the animals and see how your donations are saving their lives.

A totally dedicated, passionate "saintly" staff that is focused on barnyard and similar mostly large animals. Relatively small staff with "only" 15? acres of "tired" farmland caring for 700? animals. Quite the menagerie of creatures: goats, horses, pot belly pigs, hogs, donkeys, emu, sheep, llamas, alpacas, water buffalo, ducks and many others. All rescues are from incredibly sad stories which the staff can tell you, but is just so painful to listen to. Not a suitable place for a house pet (cat or dog). My understanding is that they only very reluctantly take in those that are not adoptable for variety of reasons. Rarely do you come across an animal charity/sanctuary that has such a passion for saving lives that is in greater need of financial assistance.
