I love being involved with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and truly feel they make an incredible difference in the Houston community!
I am a founding member of the Ladies for Literacy Guild of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, a group of dedicated, community-minded ladies intent on furthering Mrs. Barbara Bush's vision of literacy for all. It has been my honor and joy to be involved as an active volunteer for a decade, serving in multiple roles on the executive committee including president. As a community volunteer for more than 30 years, this is one of the best in terms of leadership, community engagement, commitment, vision, and impact. I also have met some of the most incredible women that I am blessed to call dear friends. This organization is profoundly changing lives through the power of literacy, one child, one book, one family at a time.
I have volunteered with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation for approximately eight years. I began my journey with BBHLF because I believed, strongly, in their purpose. I have continued volunteering because of the people at the foundation. Each one is committed to the goal of literacy and expanding their reach in the community. From the groups within the foundation (Young Professionals Group, Ladies For Literacy), to the varied programs meant to serve all ages, the BBHLF exceeds in their goals to expand literacy.
Because of the commitment to reading by the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, I have been a reader in a few underserved elementary schools in Houston. These bright beautiful young people have dreams and desires and I have had the opportunities to show them they can achieve their dreams with the power of literacy. What a joy to be part of a group of extraordinary women doing a most ordinary thing that will result in extraordinary things!
