Although reimbursement for services rendered is critical to the operation and stability of baptist medical center-yazoo, it is recognized that not all individuals possess the ability to purchase essential medical services, and further, that the mission of the hospital is to serve the community with respect to providing healthcare services and healthcare education. (see sch o pg 56 for continuation)therefore in keeping with its commitment to serve all members of its community, baptist medical center-yazoo provides the following:--free care and/or subsidized care where the need and/or an individual's inability to pay coexist,--care provided to persons covered by governmental programs at below cost, and--health activities and programs to support the communitythese activities include wellness programs, community education programs, and special programs for the elderly, handicapped, medically underserved, and a variety of broad community support activities. Baptist medical center-yazoo offers 25 beds which can be utilized (swing) between acute care and rehabilitative care and a 24/7 emergency room. Within the hospital facility, the hospital offers specialty clinics in the areas of: cardiology, general surgery, cataract and eye surgery, gi/endoscopy services, orthopedic and wound care, as well as two primary care clinics and a geriatric day program. During its 2017 fiscal year, baptist medical center-yazoo recorded 754 inpatient admissions with 4,780 days of care provided, 18,246 outpatient occasions of service, 9,405 emergency room visits, 25,820 patient encounters in its primary care clinics and 480 surgical cases. For fiscal year 2017, traditional charity care charges foregone based on established rates were approximately $2,207,989 and contractual allowances were approximately $13,099,615.
