Band of the hills is welcoming and patient as well as dedicated to excellence. As a junior in high school I wasn't sure if I was going to like being in a band that wasn't my high school one but I could no longer march or be a part of our high school band but wanted to continue to play. They welcomed me in and I quickly learned I loved playing with again. It was challenging, fun, and allowed me to be me. I was disappointed when COVID took away my first concert with them and was looking forward to all the holiday playing but hopefully someday soon I will get to. This is a wonderful organization and a quality one.
A great group of people who meet each week with a shared purpose: have fun while making good music.
Band of the Hills is a great organization. We have fun during the rehearsals, and perform wonderful concerts. Great group of people making wonderful music together.
As a very new member of the Band of the Hills, I was welcomed with open arms. I was very surprised by the diversity of it's members and all of their talents. The music is challenging and fun and it's just a fun group to be part of.
Band of the Hills has been a beacon of hope and fellowship as a newcomer to Central Texas. Everyone is so talented, warm, and welcoming. I'm honored to be able to participate in such a community treasure!
How very proud I am to be a member of the Band of the Hills. Hearing recordings of our performances is so rewarding, confirming that all of the time and effort spent perfecting our music playing is always worthwhile time spent in preparation for our concerts. Our conductors encourage us to fine-tune individual performances for the better of the entire band, which again can be heard in the concert recordings and presentations to our community.
This organization, The Band of The Hills, is a wonderful group reaching out to musicians of all ages as well as the public. High school students gain valuable experiences. Musicians who haven't played in many years return to rehearse and perform with fine-tuned precision. The two leaders bring out the best of the performers so the audiences and community can appreciate music presentations at their best. Musical performances are given free of charge wherever a venue can be found large enough for this large group.
Band of the Hills is a great non-profit organization that spreads musical appreciation to the community through free public concert performances. A great organization with Great people!
Band Of The Hills is a great community band that exists to promote music performance and music appreciation to the community. Concerts are always free and there are no paid positions in the organization. 100% of all donations go directly to the band and it's mission.
The band accepts anyone who can play an instrument of all ages and skill levels. We have players that are high school age, and members that are senior retirees, and everything in between. The music is challenging enough that it is entertaining to our audience, and it serves to keep our members sharp and skills always improving.
I've been a member for two years now, and have enjoyed the experience immensely.
I am a senior, and this group gives me a great opportunity to continue to play my tuba in a supportive environment of musicians of all ages.
I moved here from Illinois, where I had played in multiple community bands. This group is bigger and friendlier than any of those.
I'm so glad that there is such a great outlet for pursuing my musical passion. If you play an instrument and are looking for a group to join, I strongly encourage you check out Band of the Hills.
I play bassoon in the Band of Hills ensemble and I have done so since it's inception in Cedar Park, Texas. I have always been pleased and impressed with the friendliness of the people involved as well as their professionalism both on and off stage. I strongly suggest you try out a performance.
This is a wonderful group that provides the gift of music to both musicians looking to play and to community members who attend performances. Truly a special organization.
Absolutely top notch amateur band, a wonderful community from teenagers to octogenarians all sharing together in the joy of music.
This has been a VERY rewarding experience for me. A chance to reintroduce me to the field of music performance and excellence. I am very grateful that I have had a chance to serve with Band of the Hills!
I’ve been to a few of the concerts they put on, and I’ve always enjoyed them. The music and atmosphere are both really nice.
This is a great organization! If you enjoy live music go see these folks. They do it because they love playing music and it really shows. And pitch in a few dollars to support them. They do it for free but it costs them money to do it.
This is a wonderful group of musicians from the community that gather together to share their talents with each other and the community. The directors are top notch, and they have a great approach to working with the community band to prepare for music concerts presented to the community.
Band of the Hills enables other non-profits by bringing music to their events. It is a force multiplier for the Williamson/Travis counties society. In addition, it provides education (to audiences and members) and entertainment. As a member of both the Band of the Hills and the affiliated Clarinet Choir, I find it an excellent respite from my daily concerns. It is also well known that playing music has positive cognitive benefits. This is particularly important for older members.
Band of the Hills is a large community wind/percussion band that encourages participation across a wide range of ages (middle school to retirees) and skills (music education professionals and those returning to their instruments many years after school). It brings value to the community through the participation of over 80 performers as well as the entertainment from performances by the entire band and several sub-groups (clarinet choir, piccolo duet, flute quartet). The cognitive benefits of performing and listening to good music are well established. In addition, the band adds to the social capital of the greater Leander, Cedar Park, Austin and Georgetown communities through the rehearsals and performances.
This is a wonderful community band. They play at many events in the community and are always a joy to listen to.
Awesome band! They are really impressive and play difficult music. They sound as good as most college bands and are all community volunteers. It's nice to have such talented people in our community.
This band is wonderful! They inspire and provide a platform for artists of all skill levels to express music for the community to enjoy.
Great service to the community providing free concerts to the general public. Provides an opportunity for musicians young and old to build, maintain or renew their musicianship. I have been a member of this group for 2 years and it has brought me back to music in a way that I could not have managed on my own.
This community band encourages “community” among a wide range of ages, diverse backgrounds, and musical skills and experiences within a group of bandsmen who are dedicated to quality and excellence. Performing with such an ensemble heightens one’s playing skill, sight reading ability, and performance confidence. I have seen first-hand from my own playing experiences, the social and musical growth one can receive seated beside someone who has been playing their instrument for 20 years or more. You simply cannot put a price tag on such an experience. I certainly encourage any musician of any skill level who would enjoy playing in an excellent concert band, such as Band of the Hills that plays a varied repertoire, to come join us and get ready to learn…and practice!
I moved back to Texas to care for my Mother and was saddened by the prospect of finding a good community group to play with. It was a little unnerving venturing out to the first rehearsal not knowing what I would find, but I was met with welcoming warmth and I have been a member since 2002! This was a great fit for me, and I'm so thankful I discovered them. There's simply nothing better than getting with other musicians with the focus of making great music together!!!
Band of the Hills has been around for 20 years and creates an opportunity for all groups to continue to perform. The music is challenging and fun.
It has been my pleasure and honor to be a performing member of the Band of the Hills for many years. What pride I have to be challenged to learn and perform new material with so many other fine musicians. We encourage serious music students to join us which helps them in their journey through music.
The Band of the Hills has brought years of enjoyable diverse music to many different communities in the Hill Country of Texas. The music played is not only marches but includes show tunes, excerpts from great symphonies, the big band sounds of swing, blues, jazz, television and movie themes, dance music and much more. The Band Director and the band members bring forth many years of musical experiences. This is more than a band, it is more of a wind symphony.
I am a newer member of Band of the Hills. They have challenged me and helped me to grow as a musician, while making great friendships. The music is fun and engaging. I look forward to many more seasons with this amazing group.
I am a flute teacher who moved to a new area. While I was waiting to pick up students I found Band of the Hills to play with. At first I was nervous that they would either play music that was too easy or too hard. But I have found the music challenging and fun. We play a wide range from musicals to marches, concertos to original compositions. I enjoy getting to know my section and improving my skills. Band of the Hills is great.
I joined Band of the Hills about 8 years ago and the group is like a second family to me. They've been the rock in my life during some tough times. We meet regularly, play challenging music, and provide entertainment for the community. I couldn't ask for a better group and director and will continue playing with them as long as I can!
I joined Band of the Hills after I moved to Austin with hardly any knowledge of the area. I was in a community band previously, so it was important to me to find another organization so that I could continue playing my instrument regularly. Band of the Hills is a great fit. The music is great, challenging but not too difficult, and the people are wonderful. Nearly everyone I have spoken to is friendly and seems genuinely interested in me. The performances that we do are spaced out so that you always have something to work toward and I think it brings something special to the surrounding communities.
I recently joined this band and my experience has been better than I ever expected it could be! The people are great, the music is fun, and there are plenty of opportunities for musicians, no matter your skill level. I've never felt pressured because I couldn't get a measure right on the first try, and the atmosphere just feels warm and welcoming from all members who I have come into contact with.
Great Organization - they give many free concerts and help share the Arts in Central Texas. Anyone is able to join regardless of musical ability so they group is open to every one and their concerts are always Great. There arege quite a many other "non-profit" musical groups in the area but charge quite a bit to attend their performances and the fees to participate are very expensive. Band of the Hill charges a very norminal fee to cover the cost of music, the director and board are not compensated, concerts are free and all funding is used to help purchase and upgrade the musical equipment the band needs. I think this is the best music group in the Austin area for all the reasons I listed - open to anyone to join, low cost of membership, no "high paid" director or board, free concerts and all the monry the organization gets goes directly in to meeting the needs of the organization and not paying any of the volunteers like some other groups may do. I Love Band of the Hills!
I have played bassoon for this band since it's inception approximately 20 years ago. My ability to play my instrument stems from my high school years where I achieved State of Texas recognition. I play a very expensive instrument so I had to give up playing upon graduation but then my husband and I put enough money together to buy one, I helped found Band of the Hills to play with, and we have been happily playing together ever since. This band is more valuable to me then just an opportunity to play bassoon again, it is a way to give back to the community my husband and I of 35 years are a part of. The friendships I have established over the years are priceless. The band director, Bob Dalrymple, is a guiding spirit and an inspiration. I love this band and I wish it the best of luck for many more years to come.
This non-profit, volunteer community band is welcoming to musicians of all ages and talent levels. After moving across the country to Texas four years ago, this group quickly became my family. The band enjoys performing a wide variety of music for local events and retirement homes. God Bless Texas and Band of the Hills!
Great organization - lots of fun and great opportunities for family members and friends to share in performing music together.
Band of the Hills is an amazing organization, bringing uplifting concerts to the community, and allowing musicians of all ages and experience to dust off their instruments and be members of this very fun musical group. Bob Dalyrimple, our director, is the best!
Playing music with a group (like we are) is one the few things you can do that uses
both sides of your brain at the same time. What a good to exercise your brain activity. Additionally, what a grand way to meet people who have common interests. Without some income it is hard keep this large band going with new challenging music as well as a large a number of other financial needs . We pay dues in order to have a barrel of fun
This band provides a welcoming environment for members of all ages. The concerts are fun and lively and have a little something for everyone.
Band of The Hills provides a great community service by offering concerts with various styles and composers free to the public.
Wow! What an amazing organization! Many of us played a musical instrument in our past and always wanted to play music again. Band of the Hills provides that opportunity. The band shares that music with the communities we live in. The Band of the Hills provides musicians a venue to do what they love - play instrumental community band music!
The band's performances are well received in the community and foster a safe and fun experiences for families and their loved ones. This group is open to the public and provides musicians of all levels with an outlet to express themselves artistically through music performance.
