Band Of The Hills is a great community band that exists to promote music performance and music appreciation to the community. Concerts are always free and there are no paid positions in the organization. 100% of all donations go directly to the band and it's mission.
The band accepts anyone who can play an instrument of all ages and skill levels. We have players that are high school age, and members that are senior retirees, and everything in between. The music is challenging enough that it is entertaining to our audience, and it serves to keep our members sharp and skills always improving.
I've been a member for two years now, and have enjoyed the experience immensely.
Great community band. They accept all players, and provide community concerts and events sharing the joy of music. A wonderful organization with many of the players being members for well over a decade.
It has been my pleasure and honor to be a performing member of the Band of the Hills for many years. What pride I have to be challenged to learn and perform new material with so many other fine musicians. We encourage serious music students to join us which helps them in their journey through music.
The Band of the Hills has brought years of enjoyable diverse music to many different communities in the Hill Country of Texas. The music played is not only marches but includes show tunes, excerpts from great symphonies, the big band sounds of swing, blues, jazz, television and movie themes, dance music and much more. The Band Director and the band members bring forth many years of musical experiences. This is more than a band, it is more of a wind symphony.
Band of the Hills is a great organization. We have fun during the rehearsals, and perform wonderful concerts. Great group of people making wonderful music together.
I am a newer member of Band of the Hills. They have challenged me and helped me to grow as a musician, while making great friendships. The music is fun and engaging. I look forward to many more seasons with this amazing group.
I am a flute teacher who moved to a new area. While I was waiting to pick up students I found Band of the Hills to play with. At first I was nervous that they would either play music that was too easy or too hard. But I have found the music challenging and fun. We play a wide range from musicals to marches, concertos to original compositions. I enjoy getting to know my section and improving my skills. Band of the Hills is great.
Band of the Hills is a large community wind/percussion band that encourages participation across a wide range of ages (middle school to retirees) and skills (music education professionals and those returning to their instruments many years after school). It brings value to the community through the participation of over 80 performers as well as the entertainment from performances by the entire band and several sub-groups (clarinet choir, piccolo duet, flute quartet). The cognitive benefits of performing and listening to good music are well established. In addition, the band adds to the social capital of the greater Leander, Cedar Park, Austin and Georgetown communities through the rehearsals and performances.
I joined Band of the Hills about 8 years ago and the group is like a second family to me. They've been the rock in my life during some tough times. We meet regularly, play challenging music, and provide entertainment for the community. I couldn't ask for a better group and director and will continue playing with them as long as I can!
I joined Band of the Hills after I moved to Austin with hardly any knowledge of the area. I was in a community band previously, so it was important to me to find another organization so that I could continue playing my instrument regularly. Band of the Hills is a great fit. The music is great, challenging but not too difficult, and the people are wonderful. Nearly everyone I have spoken to is friendly and seems genuinely interested in me. The performances that we do are spaced out so that you always have something to work toward and I think it brings something special to the surrounding communities.
I recently joined this band and my experience has been better than I ever expected it could be! The people are great, the music is fun, and there are plenty of opportunities for musicians, no matter your skill level. I've never felt pressured because I couldn't get a measure right on the first try, and the atmosphere just feels warm and welcoming from all members who I have come into contact with.
Great Organization - they give many free concerts and help share the Arts in Central Texas. Anyone is able to join regardless of musical ability so they group is open to every one and their concerts are always Great. There arege quite a many other "non-profit" musical groups in the area but charge quite a bit to attend their performances and the fees to participate are very expensive. Band of the Hill charges a very norminal fee to cover the cost of music, the director and board are not compensated, concerts are free and all funding is used to help purchase and upgrade the musical equipment the band needs. I think this is the best music group in the Austin area for all the reasons I listed - open to anyone to join, low cost of membership, no "high paid" director or board, free concerts and all the monry the organization gets goes directly in to meeting the needs of the organization and not paying any of the volunteers like some other groups may do. I Love Band of the Hills!
I moved back to Texas to care for my Mother and was saddened by the prospect of finding a good community group to play with. It was a little unnerving venturing out to the first rehearsal not knowing what I would find, but I was met with welcoming warmth and I have been a member since 2002! This was a great fit for me, and I'm so thankful I discovered them. There's simply nothing better than getting with other musicians with the focus of making great music together!!!
I have played bassoon for this band since it's inception approximately 20 years ago. My ability to play my instrument stems from my high school years where I achieved State of Texas recognition. I play a very expensive instrument so I had to give up playing upon graduation but then my husband and I put enough money together to buy one, I helped found Band of the Hills to play with, and we have been happily playing together ever since. This band is more valuable to me then just an opportunity to play bassoon again, it is a way to give back to the community my husband and I of 35 years are a part of. The friendships I have established over the years are priceless. The band director, Bob Dalrymple, is a guiding spirit and an inspiration. I love this band and I wish it the best of luck for many more years to come.
This non-profit, volunteer community band is welcoming to musicians of all ages and talent levels. After moving across the country to Texas four years ago, this group quickly became my family. The band enjoys performing a wide variety of music for local events and retirement homes. God Bless Texas and Band of the Hills!
Great organization - lots of fun and great opportunities for family members and friends to share in performing music together.
Band of the Hills is an amazing organization, bringing uplifting concerts to the community, and allowing musicians of all ages and experience to dust off their instruments and be members of this very fun musical group. Bob Dalyrimple, our director, is the best!
Playing music with a group (like we are) is one the few things you can do that uses
both sides of your brain at the same time. What a good to exercise your brain activity. Additionally, what a grand way to meet people who have common interests. Without some income it is hard keep this large band going with new challenging music as well as a large a number of other financial needs . We pay dues in order to have a barrel of fun
Awesome band! They are really impressive and play difficult music. They sound as good as most college bands and are all community volunteers. It's nice to have such talented people in our community.
This band provides a welcoming environment for members of all ages. The concerts are fun and lively and have a little something for everyone.
Band of The Hills provides a great community service by offering concerts with various styles and composers free to the public.
Wow! What an amazing organization! Many of us played a musical instrument in our past and always wanted to play music again. Band of the Hills provides that opportunity. The band shares that music with the communities we live in. The Band of the Hills provides musicians a venue to do what they love - play instrumental community band music!
The band's performances are well received in the community and foster a safe and fun experiences for families and their loved ones. This group is open to the public and provides musicians of all levels with an outlet to express themselves artistically through music performance.
