I have volunteered, fostered and adopted from Badass Animal Rescue and they are truly something special. When they commit to a dog, they COMMIT to that dog. They make sure he/she gets the training, the medical care, and the support needed while in their care. They do not discriminate by breed, size or age - this means sometimes taking dogs that other rescues leave behind. And they work with adopters to help make sure that everyone is set up for success after adoption. All 3 of my dogs were adopted from Badass. One was really fearful initially but turned into a friendly social boy with just a few months care. Another was a young puppy with a serious injury to her leg that almost required amputation. And the third was a senior with a handful of medical needs that required attention. Today all three are thriving because Badass got them the care and attention they needed. I would recommend Badass to anyone looking to adopt, foster or volunteer!
We have adopted two wonderful dogs from Badass. It feels good to know that you are saving a dog from a shelter, but at the same time dealing with an expert group that fits dogs in need with the right humans. And once you adopt with Badass, you are part of a supportive community that will see you through the highs and lows of dog ownership. I’m so grateful for Badass!
As a veterinarian who helps provide medical care for Badass’ dogs, an adopter of two amazing Badass dogs and a foster, I can vouch for the excellence of this organization from a variety of perspectives. Once Badass takes a dog under their wing, they do everything possible to ensure the dog is set up for success and find the best match for that particular dog. And the support doesn’t end once the contract is signed and the dog leaves with their forever family. Badass is a highly ethical and responsible rescue group and this is reflected in the strong community it has built and the many repeat adopters. Can’t say enough good things about them.
Badass brought our two Beagle boys to us who give us so much joy. The Badass team are always available to answer questions, they’ve created a real community amongst the foster and rescue parents with events, facebook group, and meet ups. We are so lucky to have Badass in our life. We recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a doggie.
Amazing organization--they really are about the dogs and treat them so well. And they are so helpful to adopters--they put me in touch with my dog's former foster if I had questions, got me my dog's vet info in a timely manner, and are always so helpful when I have questions. I am so grateful that I came across Badass, as they brought me to my beautiful little girl.
Thanks to Badass our family adopted Finn eleven years ago. He was a rangy one-year old lab mix from Selma, Alabama, and he chose us when he sat on my daughter's lap at an adoption event. Badass fosters had worked to make him ready to be a wonderful companion, to check us out to make sure we were a good fit for him, and to support us through training, heart worm treatment and other challenges along the way. Finn is a Badass elder now, still vital and always one of our greatest joys. We are grateful every day to Badass for the work that went into saving him and bringing him to us.
We adopted our dog from Badass almost 12 years ago. We found them online and loved that they rescued dogs from high-kill shelters in other states and brought them to NYC for adoption. Before they allow an adoption they do a home visit. And they have an amazing group of volunteers who foster the dogs (there have been many foster fails!) to get the dogs used to the city before they are adopted. They also insist that if you can not keep the dog for any reason it goes back to them (not another shelter).
The Badass Community is a strong and knowledgeable one - you can get advice about everything that dog parents care about and deal with eg training, food, medications, veterinarians etc..
And I love telling every stranger that we meet on our walks with Tilda and notices how sweet and smart she is that she is definitely a BADASS!
I can't thank Bad Ass enough for connecting us with our Furbaby S'mores! The whole process from beginning to end was well organized, very detailed oriented and everyone is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. From the interview process to your final adoption day they help with it all. We were even sent our Pups vet files and they signed our pup up for their state license to ensure we were on track. The attention to detail in this organization is amazing. They really do have your pets best interests at heart and make sure they are going to a loving caring home. We will forever be thankful to Badass and highly recommend them always to people who ask and our friends. Any future pup we adopt will definitely be a badass thank you for all you do!
We adopted our dog through Badass Animal Rescue 10 years ago. In addition to feeling at the time that the organization was full of dedicated, compassionate volunteers who guided us expertly through the process of adopting a dog with special needs, over the decade we have always been able to ask questions or seek advice from the group, and get thoughtful, up-to-date information. It has been a privilege for me to give back in a small way by helping with interviews of prospective adopters over the past 2 years. Seeing the organization from "the inside," I am impressed with how organized and well-planned everything in the effort to make the best possible matches for families and Badass dogs.

We adopted our dog 8 years ago, and became part of the Badass community. Since then, I have also become a volunteer, helping with interviewing prospective adopters, and a donor. My family is proud to support the valuable work of this wonderful, caring, and knowledgeable group.
Reliable, passionate and organized!! Genuinely care about the mission and have a great team doing great work.
We fostered for Badass for years and foster failed back in 2015. Our then foster was a fighter whose little body went through so much. Badass saw her through multiple surgeries and procedures, from the given spay to heart worm treatment to mammary removal for cancer. In the months leading up to our adoption, we saw in her a resilient little girl who just deserved that chance to be loved. Badass saw her through it in every way. We are thankful everyday for her life being saved by Badass, from pulling her from a kill shelter to providing life extending medical care. ❤️
I love this organization and the tireless work they are doing. Thank you for looking out for all the current and future Badass bubs!
Badass is an incredible adoption agency. I adopted a dog, and though I loved him, we found out that he was incompatible with my apartment within a few hours of adoption (arthritis, 4 flight walk up). The Badass team immediately responded to my concerns and helped transport him to a medical center. A few weeks later, I ended up getting a different dog who was a better fit and saw that my original dog was prescribed arthritis medication and also adopted to a first-floor apartment. That level of responsiveness, thoughtfulness, and kindness from the organization really assured me that they are committed to dog well-being. The community that Badass created is incredibly helpful, and I could not have been a first-time dog owner without them.
We adopted from Badass four years ago and it was the most incredible experience. We had never adopted from a rescue agency before and were nervous about what to expect. However, the Badass team was so organized, responsive, and helpful that even with our nerves and naivete we were able to end up with the greatest dog. Their community of adopters is also so supportive and involved that I am never worried about running into issues with our pup: I know I can reach out and someone will have suggestions and advice.
We have recommended Badass to everyone we know who has even contemplated a dog, and personally we hope to adopt from them again soon.
I can’t say enough about Badass and the amazing volunteers. I’ve been volunteering since roughly 2016 and have had the opportunity to hold various positions including adopter! The support and community are unparalleled. They matched me with my dog who is honestly the absolute perfect fit and it’s been wonderful to bring him to events and have him be the incredible foster sibling I hoped him to be. From how they care for the animals in the South to even after a dog has been adopted everyone is dedicated to helping.
I had a wonderful experience with Badass and I got the world’s best dog as a result. They are very thorough in their preparation which resulted in a perfect match between human and dog. They knew what situation would be right for my dog and they found him the right home. Having him in a foster home was so beneficial. They did not apply irrelevant requirements like some other rescues do. I highly recommend them. They are a dedicated team.
I adopted two wonderful dogs through Badass. Both of them were rescued in the south and had significant health problems at the time. Badass funded their extensive treatments, and their incredible fosters helped nurse them back to health. After adoption, I've continued to benefit from the support of Badass as well as other adopters in the very active community.
I've adopted pets from other great rescues, but none has been as outstanding as Badass in its support of both dogs and their humans.
I had a great experience working with Badass to adopt my dog, Rosie! Their process for matching you with a dog is super helpful because making sure you're the right fit isn't always easy. They take the time, care, and consideration for both parties. Working with them on the adoption process was seamless and straightforward. They do a great job handling their outreach and follow-up. Without their help and guidance I wouldn't have Rosie in my life, so I'm thankful for their wonderful team for their hard work and dedication to saving, protecting, and loving the dogs!
Badass is the epitome of a responsible rescue - they do such a great job in vetting not only those who adopt dogs (we had a Zoom call with a former adopter who asked all the right questions and the application form is thorough) but also the volunteers - everyone is helpful and timely in their responses, the organization is organized and has helpful materials like guides for recent adopters, and our dog’s fosters clearly care a ton about him to the point I exchange photos with them over a year later.
What stood out about Badass was their focus on animal welfare - from the positive reinforcement trainer recommendations to the quality of food recommendations to the walking tools they use with their dogs (mainly harnesses).
We adopted our dog in March of 2022 and truly could not have asked for a better experience - I feel good about knowing we support an organization that truly puts the needs of dogs first!
We adopted our dog in 2021 and I am so grateful to Badass for the work they did to get her out of Texas (which has many more dogs in need than homes) to us in Brooklyn, NY. They do this in all kinds of places and really do their due diligence in making sure dogs are in a home that's a great fit for them, and also foster a wonderful community by throwing events and creating online spaces for advice. A rare combination of friendly and communicative yet organized and responsible. I sing their praises and recommend them often!
I had a wonderful time volunteering for Badass Animal Rescue. I was able to work with dogs in a safe environment (with plenty of knowledgeable coordinators to supervise). They do amazing work to save dogs in need.
This animal rescue is phenomenal and truly focused on helping dogs. They are true to their word: they adopt dogs of all shapes, sizes, breeds, ages, and medical conditions. Volunteering with Badass is a truly rewarding experience-- working with both humans and dogs to help more canines find homes.
Badass rescues dogs from high-kill shelters in the southern US and Virgin Islands. In spite of their past treatment, dogs are amazingly trusting and resilient animals, and I’m thankful to be part of such a responsible rescue group that matches these dogs with the loving homes they deserve. Their network of volunteers, fosters and adopters creates a supportive and lifelong community.
I’m incredibly honored to serve on the board of directors at Badass Animal Rescue. In 2017, my partner and I adopted our dog, Rosie, from Badass, and she has changed our lives in so many beautiful ways. Rosie was surrendered at a shelter in Texas by her previous owner, after losing her in Hurricane Harvey, and I’m so thankful Rosie was given a second chance.
I adopted Hilda Spellman (n/k/a Ellie) in 2019 and the experience was seamless. Badass helped with every step along the way and I am grateful to be part of the Badass community!
I adopted all three of my dogs through Badass. They were so patient and empathetic as I chose, adopted and learned how to care for my girls - my first Badass was my first dog ever! They have an amazing network of volunteers who help with all elements of the adoption from fostering to training advice. Further - they have a fantastic closed Facebook page where Badass adopters swap questions, concerns, advice and cute photos for with a community who really cares!
I adopted, fostered, and volunteered with badass for years until I moved out our state. They are the most well run and ethical rescue I have ever known and I’ve known a lot as a dog trainer!
I fostered dogs with BadAss Animal Rescue. The training to become a foster person/home was comprehensive. I found the staff and volunteers very helpful every step of the way! I fostered many dogs with the continued support of the staff! I ended up moving with two BadAss dogs of my own! I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be involved with such a great and dedicated organization!
I adopted my two dogs from Badass almost six years ago now. They take the time and care to ensure that they are helping you find a dog that matches your lifestyle and that the dog will truly be in his or her true forever home. After the adoption, you can join a face group of all Badass adopters. The continued support after the adoption made me feel so much more at ease.
We adopted our muttigree from Badass almost 10 years ago. We knew we wanted to adopt not shop and started searching for local rescue groups. Badass brings dogs from high-kill shelters around the country to NYC. They have amazing foster parents who get the dogs used to leashes, homes, city noise and being loved. They vet their applicants and even do home visits before you can adopt. They hold adoption events where you can meet the dogs, spend time with them and then take them home if you’ve been approved. They continuously work to raise funds so they can save more animals. Everyone who works or volunteers for or adopts from this amazing organization IS “badass.”
I've been a foster volunteer with Badass for almost two years. I've seen about a dozen dogs find their way to their forever homes with the organization and each time I've been grateful that they put time and money into making sure each dog finds the perfect home!
There really is no better team of rescuers. And they have an uncanny way of matching dogs and humans! I’m so proud to be in the Badass family! Love from me and Luna ❤️
This very special organization is dedicated to finding homes for the most vulnerable dogs, no matter their age, history, or medical condition. We found our pup Joyce through Badass, and were so struck by the passion, love, and care exhibited by each and every person involved in the organization, from the director, Krista, to even the newest volunteers. Truly, they will not stop until every dog has a home! I was so moved by Badass that I started volunteering with them as well, and seeing how the engine works has only made me that much more passionate about Badass. These people are true heroes who have dedicated their lives to a beautiful and important mission!
I joined Badass Animal Rescue as a volunteer in May and have been so impressed by the dedication of all of the other volunteers who make Badass' work possible. Everyone has the dogs' best interest at heart and works tirelessly to make sure they're placed with fosters who are working hard to help get them adopted.
I have had the honor or building this organization together with countless smart and dedicated dog loving volunteers for the past 11 years. I am proud of the organization we have become: organized, well run and most importantly dedicated to our belief that all adoptable dogs deserves a chance at a loving and caring home no matter age, breed and medical status. We are an all breed rescue that will save the sweetest dogs in the shelter based on temperament alone. This is clearly reflected on our Petfinder roster of adoptable dogs. I am also proud of the net work of volunteers, foster, adopters and Southern partners who we work closely with to save these dogs. It takes a village and Badass Animal Rescue has built such a village for over 11 years now.
My favorite thing about Badass is that after adoption, you are not on your own. The support network is fantastic for first time and even seasoned adopters. I have two Badass dogs who would have been overlooked given their medical needs but Badass stepped in and gave them the care they needed. They truly try to help every dog put their best paw forward which made me and the many Badass volunteers want to give my time and support to Badass. I am so grateful to Badass for my two dogs and encourage others to adopt from Badass!
Badass does a wonderful job of looking out for the dogs that some rescue organizations won’t take the time to find homes for. The application process is careful and thorough and they make every effort to match the right dog to the right home. They have a great deal of post adoption support and their adopters become part of the Badass community. I wish every dog rescue could operate this way!
