Mission: To provide voluntary service to patients, family members, and staff of good samaritan and mission oaks hospitals in a spirit of dedication, friendliness, and professionalism. The volunteer is a member of the hospital family, works with the staff as a team member, and supports the mission of the hospital. There are two specialized service areas within the overall auxiliary entity: (1) gift shop, (2) access (a caring community of education, services, and support). The gift shop provides retail and sundry items for the convenience of patients, families, and visitors. The mission of access is helping families deal with the crisis of hospitalization. Financially disadvantaged families are eligible for vouchers for gas, meals, and emergency hotel overnights. A bi-weekly car seat fitting service helps keep babies and children in the community safe.
Programs: During 2017 the auxiliary, including the gift shop and access had approximately 535 active volunteers who provided over 66,481 hours of non-clinical support to patients, families, and visitors in over 40 service areas of the main hospital and in the mission oaks facility. Additional programs include annual scholarship awards, patient amenities, toys, and games.
