My wife found Autism Vision a few years ago and had me join too. They have had several fun events that my kids enjoyed such as the Easter egg hunt. They have also Ben a wealth of information regarding doctors and therapists.
When my daughter was diagnosed I didn’t know where to turn to. I found this group and it’s been very helpful to me, especially being able to hear of other parents’ experiences and recommendations regarding ASD. The group’s administrator, Sharon Starkey, always keeps us in the loop from local events to the latest articles on ASD. Lots of activities are offered to meet other parents and caregivers. It’s a great and safe group to feel supported as a parent of a special needs child!
Autism Vision has become a big part of my family’s lives. I have four autistic children and autism vision has been a great source of information, resources, community and provider of opportunities for my family. Also, as an advocate and special needs educator myself, Autism Vision has also become my number one recommendation for autism families looking for resources and connection.
Autism Vision has been a really important part of our lives. My son is Autistic, and Autism Vision has provided so much support and information for us along the journey. I am so grateful for all the events they host for families who have children on the Autism Spectrum. It is a very important part of our lives personally and also vital for our community!
Autism Vision of Colorado is absolutely amazing! They have helped my adult son find a much needed group of friends. They have wonderful activities too! We're thrilled to have found them!
This nonprofit has been instrumental in helping families to link to services. They provide valuable support groups, activities and events for the community. They also have a very active private Facebook page that not only shares events from around the state but gives families a safe place to talk and ask questions The funds that are raised all go back into their programs since they have no paid staff or overhead.
This charity helped out immensely when my autistic son was younger. We still go to their amazing resource fairs. They have lots of monthly meetups and Sharon does a great job of keeping things going. There is a great Facebook page dedicated to this charity as well.
I’m a mom of three. One of my kiddos is autistic.
I found Autism Vision several years ago when I felt like I was heading toward burn out. I was tired and isolated. I was looking for a community where everyone in my family would be accepted and where I didn’t feel like I had to continually advocate for understanding of my son’s needs. When I started connecting with families at Autism Vision events, it was such a relief to be with people who just “got it” Everyone had first-hand experience with neurodiversity and I could finally relax in a place that understood the challenges we faced and where all of my kids were encouraged and accepted.
I have loved being part of playdates, coffee shop get-togethers, fairs, laser tag, pizza parties, and other fun opportunities to connect. Especially in the summer, when I’ve got all of the kids at home with me, I love putting those types of things on our family calendar so we all can look forward to being out in the community with friends. It’s a huge sanity boost!
Autism Vision is also a place to find resources. I especially have appreciated resource fairs where I’ve been able to talk with local organizations about my family’s specific needs. I don’t know how many times I’ve found local supports I had no idea were available.
I look back at where I was several years ago and feel so thankful to have found this group. My family has found a wonderful, supportive community.
Autism Vision of Colorado offers wonderful community events to help families impacted by autism connect with others. Our family has always felt welcome and valued when we attend events like special sensory friendly movie screenings, all abilities trunk or treating, hikes, trampoline park get togethers, baseball games, and others. We are so grateful for this organization!
Sharon Starkey has been a valued resource for the autism community for many many years. Personally I've watched her help people for more than a decade. She is very knowledgeable and connects people with the right resources. She works very hard on behalf of anyone who needs help. Sharon has an intimate knowledge of autism since both her son and husband are diagnosed on the spectrum. She has an extensive network of amazing contacts and is always willing to share those!
