When my daughter Johanna was two years old, she was diagnosed with ASD, and I felt very alone and scared about the future. I finally realized that my isolation was not doing me, Johanna, or anyone else any good at all, and I reached out to other parents in the same situation. This led me to my earliest encounters with the Autism Society of Broward, about 7 years ago. I gradually became more active in my volunteer work, and I found that the connections I was able to make with other parents in a similar situation was energizing and healing for both me and Johanna. I have never looked back, and the Society continues to be one of the main focuses of my life. I would highly recommend that any parent wishing to connect with other parents visit the website asabroward.org and join this wonderful group today. Through participating in the various programs the group has to offer, you will also soon discover that you are not alone on this challenging but rewarding journey!!

ASB is truly a grassroots organization that not only is there to guide/help new parents in the journey of autism once child is diagnosed; as a matter of fact, ASB events -centralized- focus is to apply "inclusion" in all kind of social settings, allowing our kids to participate in fun-filled activities as well for parents to share their experiences in a friendly and familial environment.

I have been a volunteer with the Autism Society of Broward for almost a year. I have also been a volunteer for other organizations, so I can say, if I compare others to ASB, that my experience has been remarkable. I had never experienced a sense of belonging, family and understanding before. ASB is the greatest organization to volunteer for!
