I am familiar with the work of the Auris Project through executive director Denise McVea's amazing book, EVIL CORP: ALLSTATE INSURANCE, SHADOW NETWORKS, AND THE CORRUPTION OF A MAJOR AMERICAN CITY. (ISBN: 9781948955317). (https://www.amazon.com/Evil-Corp-Allstate-Insurance-Corruption/dp/1948955318)
The book details how as an investigative reporter and community activist, she documented all sorts of abuses of power and corruption in San Antonio. She explained how local judges illegally denied thousands of poor people access to justice, how city and county officials helped developers literally steal depressed properties from her rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, and how cops on the take routinely falsified police reports to hide organized criminal activity. In response, local authorities engaged in shocking official oppression to shut down the Auris Project and silence McVea. I couldn't have survived it, but she did and the organization survived. I can't afford much, but I am sending a small donation in support. The book btw, is really fascinating, unbelievable.
