Mission: The objectives and purposes of this association are (either directly or through subsidiaries or partnerships) to administer the practice of medicine, to manage ambulatory care services and other clinical services, and to acquire and administer funds and property which, after the payment of necessary expenses, shall be devoted exclusively to the charitable, scientific, and educational missions of augusta university.
Programs: Through the efforts of the organization, primary care as well as specialized tertiary and quaternary medical providers have been recruited and retained to provide care to thousands of insured and uninsured georgia and south carolina citizens. Expansion to community practice sites has provided the organization's members and employed physicians with additional venues to care for patients and generate new referrals to the sub specialty educational and clinical programs of augusta university (au). Organizational funds have been used to fuel the research enterprise of au, primarily through the recruitment of and funding for senior clinical investigators and physician scientists. Accumulated funds of the organization are used by the dean of the au medical college of georgia, and its clinical science departments, to supplement funding for educational programs of the school. During the fiscal year ending june 30, 2017, 38% of the medical care provided by the organization's members and employed physicians was to uninsured and underinsured citizens of georgia and south carolina. Expansion efforts have brought the services of au to surrounding communities, which increased patient referrals to the teaching programs of au.
