Mission: The Atlantic City Rescue Mission meets a critical need in a five-county area of southern New Jersey by serving all populations of homeless men, women and mothers with children. The Mission provides emergency shelter services and food in addition to its being a full-service, Christian social service organization. Structured programs in addiction recovery, work readiness, family services, referral, primary health care, mental health case management and other services are offered within the 312-bed facility. The Mission serves over 3,000 people each year and is unique in the area in that it offers services to unsubsidized clients.
Programs: A. For homeless men (2,255 in 2007) and women (604 in 2007): There are three major programs (in addition to others). 1) Emergency shelter for a limited period (10 days) to enable us to determine a plan for their lives, engage them and offer them long-term programmatic help. 2) A Work Readiness Program (120 days) for 40 men and 22 women at a time, where we teach entry level skills along with Biblical basics and counseling. 3) Overcomers, a 12-month addiction recovery program based on a Biblical 12-step approach for 15 men and 4 women at a time. B. For homeless mothers with children (73 moms, 143 kids in 2007), the Family Life Center covers all aspects of basic life skills and spiritual counseling for the mothers and also includes a pre-school and tutoring for the children. C. Job placement and housing placement assistance is offered to all eligible clients. D. The Mission also operates the Barnabas House Program - a 10-bed transitional housing facility for male graduates of a long-term program where they can receive further addiction recovery counseling, job placement assistance, and basic life skills support.
