A group of highly unprofessional, sloppy, insensitive individuals. As an auditor, my advice is not to give these people a dime. I just came from their karaoke event they'd been advertising for nearly a month. Everything about reeked "disaster" and "inept." But what hurt the most was how cruel these people were.
First, the email said be there at 7:30 and karaoke at 8pm. It was nearly 9pm and we were just told it would be another 15 minutes to start. Second, one of the staff kept putting his hands on me. I’ve asked him TWICE to stop doing so because I was so uncomfortable by it. Imagine a complete stranger, constantly putting his hands on you, as if he knows you, even after you indicate STOP. TWICE. Under California law, this is battery. Third and most damning was that I asked, in no uncertain terms, for a song over 2 weeks in advance. And like clockwork, the bar and athlete ally are arguing over whose fault it is rather than fixing a horrible mistake. This song was a dedication to my late fiancé. It's a thing I've started sharing with the world. I sing a song to him at karaoke bars hoping he knows how much I still love him. Because I should've told him, but I wasn't out yet. I wanted to share this beautiful ritual with Athlete Ally tonight. And these a**h***s were too self absorbed to care about anything other than blaming someone else. Not fixing the mistake. Not apologize and committing to doing much better. Not apologizing for my loss. No, just shrugging it off, like I was unimportant. Like my request was merely a tiny little detail that wasn't worth their time or energy. And then to top it all off, I was told subtitles for speakers (not the songs but people who are speaking and presenting) would not be available, even though this is a violation of both state AND federal law.
Shame on you, Athlete Ally. Shame on you. Thank you for ruining my night and my romantic gesture to my late fiancé. I was intending to donate $100. I will not be donating — not now, not ever. And I hope everyone else follows my advice.
